Dog Chewing Leg

Does anyone's dog do this? My dog has just recently started biting his leg to the point were his leg hair has turned red! Maybe from his gums? There is no hairloss.

He recently recovered from frost bitten feet and with spring coming I havn't taken him out for any walks in a few weeks. I think this is the problem and I probably answered my own question but I wanted to hear if anyone else has had a similar problem that exercise has helped.

Thanks.

Hi

My dog used to licked her tail till it bled. It was because she was in pain from her arthritis and also turned out she had cancer.

May be you should take yours to your vet. Your dog may be antibiotic so the infection won't spread (from his bites), and your vet may also prescribe medication to calm the nerves.

Hope everything will be okay.

Is there any indication that there's pain or irritation where he's biting? Dogs will sometimes do that if they have skin allergies or an irritation like an insect bite.

Your hunch could also be correct in that it's pent up nervous energy. Can he be distracted to chew something else, like a raw marrow bone, or a Kong toy filled with peanut butter? Is he allowed to go on walks yet?

Rascal goes to daycare once a week to help burn off energy. While he doesn't do any obsessive-compulsive behaviors when we miss a week or two (like licking/biting), he does start becoming a bit of pill attitude-wise.

We have a yellow lab and he has been doing this for about the past month, on both forearms. His too are turning a reddish color. I haven't taken him to the vet or anything because he shows no sign of stress or anything, just that! Weird....

Yep - turned out to be allergies. Is that a Great Pyranees! Used to have one - named Tess - miss her like crazy. Give your's a big hug for me.

Yes he's crossed with a Maremma. Hmmm maybe I will try to change up his food. He is eating Nutro Lamb & rice.

I have a friend with a shih tzu who licked his feet and the fur on his feet turned red. The vet told my friend it was from the dog's saliva and not a problem, other than cosmetic.

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.
