Does it matter?

Hi Cathe(and educated crowd)
I am wondering if I really have to lift my upper body for abs when doing reverse crunches. I mean, can't I just lift and contract the lower body (abs) and NOT lift with the upper? I don't mean to sound like a wimp but sometimes I don't really feel like lifting my upper abs at the same time as the lower. Please tell me if this will in any way "cheat" me of ultimate results? Thanks

I suppose that if you leave out the upper crunch that you get less work to the upper abs, but I believe that many people will benefit by leaving out the upper crunch on this particular move. It allows me (and many other people??) to really focus on the lower abs. I feel like my upper abs are worked enough with all the other movements. As I've stated in several other post here, I even recommend doing some reverse crunches before all the other ab work, especially for beginners who may not be able to do them later in a workout.
