Does body fat shift

OK, I cant even believe that I am asking this question but here goes - does fat shift? My stomach seems to be pulling up and getting tighter but not loosing fat persay. Let me give you some background, I was overweight / obese most of my life and I had two c-sections in a 3 year span. I am now at a healthy weight and very active and fit, but needless to say it has taken my abs some time to catch up with the rest of my body.

My clothes seem to be tighter, but my weight and body fat percentage have stayed the same for the most part. I have not changed my eating too drasticly, and as far as my workouts go they are getting more intense...(STS + cardio, plus I teach two ab classes a week and 2 wegith classes a week)......Has anyone experienced this? Any advice?

How long ago did you have your baby? The reason I ask is I've found that after I had my two kids, my body just took a while to get back to normal, even after I lost most of the weight. Even like my hips and ribs took a while to settle back to where they should be. Plus, could your stomach issues that you're referring to possibly be because it was stretched out during pregnancy? As far as suggestions go, just from what you said, maybe you need to focus on more cardio, since it looks like you do a lot of weight work? If your fat % and weight are the same, it sounds like it's your muscles that are getting bigger. Maybe now you can shift your focus to cardio. Hope this helps.:D

I agree about the baby issue - I just had a baby too and while I feel I have lost all my weight - my hips/bones have widened and I can't button my pants. Like they fit but the hips are wider. I don't know the answer but I think it is worth thinking about what the above poster said.

Hows the personal training business going anyway? I start back up on June 1!

I'm not sure, but I know that I tend to gain weight differently as I age.

I used to only gain weight in my booty and thighs. Now, I gain it more around my waist and upper arms.

Congrats on your baby....The sad thing for me is my youngest will be 3 in July...I feel like my abs look better meaning everything is moving up instead of just hanging there, but why would my clothes feel tighter..It could be that I am about to receive my monthly gift from mother nature...Oh the curses of being a woman.

The PT business is very busy..I am hoping to switch to days come the fall when my boys go to school longer. I have been workiong nights and weekends and doing in home training...Are you excited to get back to work??

Nope, I am not excited. Sorry, it's just the truth. I am very busy with three young kids one of which is a new baby. Just very nervous is all. I like my job, like the money, but no, not excited. Too much on my plate already. I will be doing clients at 5 am and on, long break during the day, and then in the evenings and weekends too. So I am working all day b/n clients and kids nonstop. My fault, I have control over the issue, but my hands are tied. The clients need the times and I need the money. Oh well.

Keep at it! ;)

I think I read somewhere that yes, this does happen. I want to say I saw in Outsmarting The Midlife Fat Cell, but I'm not sure.

Congrats on your new baby! Yes, the exact same thing happened to me - my hips stayed wider for some time, even though I lost all the weight. But trust me - they WILL go back! ;) It just takes time.
