Does anyone take dietary supplements?

I see them in the magazines and wonder whether or not to take them. I notice the Hydroxycut ones are advertised a lot. I have also seen ads for Metabolife and energize and others. I also see a lot of ads for the protein powders. This is all new to me and I don't know what to take and what not to take, or even where to start. Anyone have any suggestions on where I should start? I am 33 and as of this morning 111 lbs and I am 5'4". I would appreciate any help! I do take One a Day Weight Smart.

Thanks for all the help

:) :)

I guess I also should have put that I am trying to firm and tone but I would also like to get muscle definition. Thanks :)

We've had some discussion about this before, & general consensus is pretty much all supplements are a waste of money. Good diet & regular exersize is the way to go.

Also, I must add--5'4" 111 lbs is a good weight. I wouldn't lose much more if I were you. Just be careful!

I must have missed that discussion. Sorry. I am not really looking at loosing weight but I would like to firm and tone everything and gain some muscle definition. Thanks for the info.:)

Sabrina,

The only thing I would suggest is to consume approx .75 to 1 gram of protein for each lb of body weight. Some of this protein can be in the form of protein powder or bars. Just be careful, a lot protein bars contain as much sugar as a candy bar. I personally cannot eat protein bars because they give me gas (TMI) which is a common side effect. I usually don't have the same problem with protein powder.

Protein helps rebuild you muscles.

Don't apologize honey, there's a wealth of information on these boards--it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Most articles say you shhould not take anything that contains ephedra. I think that has been banned now anyway. Most of the things you are looking at will probably not help you. Try to make sure you have enough calicum and vit.D in your diet. Take a combined supplement if needed. That will protect your bones as you get older. Thats all I know. Sorry its not too much.
