Does anyone ever just stop?

Today I did MIC and I just couldn't get through it. About 59 minutes into it I skipped to the cooldown missing most of the last step section and the blast. I hate when I have to do this but I was just exausted! Usually I can push myself to the end(especially if I'm that close), but today I just threw in the towel. This may sound stupid but when this happens, I feel dissapointed in myself. Is that weird? Do any of you super ladies ever have to quit before a workout is done? If so, do you ever get down on yourself because of it?
Carolyn

Absolutely. I used to get really upset with myself when I couldn't finish. But in the last 3 or 4 years, some of my injuries have occurred when I was exhausted. I realized that when my body (or mind!!) is that tired, I'm setting yourself up for something that could keep me down for weeks or months. It sucks. I still struggle a little with myself to not be disappointed, but I try to look at it as my body keeping itself safe and healthy :)

You'll probaby be extra energized in the next day or two because of it.

Hi Carolyn. First off, sounds like you got in a great workout even though you stopped. An hour is nothing to feel bad about! That is all a lot people even do! Second, stuff happens, you know? We're tired, things need to be done, feel sick, etc. It certainly happens to me many times. Just Sunday, my DH & I were going to finish cardio at home b/c only got in 45 min (son had been sick and became crabby at the gym). We came home to do a section of KM and both said "forget it". We were too tired and didn't have the umph. Sometimes I have to stop b/c of my son's needs, sometimes my w/o gets broken up into bits. Yeah, I do get irritated on occasion but we have to listen to our bodies & hey, life happens :) I'm sure it happens to everyone now and again. Don't beat yourself up too much ;)

Oh yes - and don't get down on yourself. Some days it's just not feasible for me to finish, so I don't push it and finish. The next day is usually a really good one, though, to make up for it.

Good luck

DUDE!!! You did an HOUR of an extremely taxing workout. You should be patting yourself on the back, not getting down on yourself:)

Thanks ladies! I knew you would make me feel better. It makes me feel better just knowing that this happens to you guys as well!!:)
And it's not the end of the world and hell yes, it is a hard workout!!!
Thanks!!

I can't recall this happening unless I'm coming down with something (but usually I know it, and don't choose a workout I can't do).

I have, at times, "pooped out" on a workout (BMax comes to mind) and ended up taking a bit of a break between segments, or modifying moves, or lowering my step height.

If you feel "just exhausted" doing a workout that you usually can do, it seems to me like you need a break.

Yes, it happened to me just yesterday. I was too exhausted to do BC - I got through 2 cycles and nearly collapsed. Usually BC is not a problem for me. Yesterday I was running on very little sleep and my body revolted. My husband kept saying "I think you should stop". I finally did, but I did feel bad. Not guilty so much as I felt like a failure. But my body just didn't want to do what I was trying to make it do. I did Bootcamp this morning, after getting plenty of sleep, and got through it with no problems. I guess we all have ups and downs.

However, 59 minutes of MIC is nothing to sneeze at - that's a great workout! Try not to be so down on yourself. It happens to the best of us. :)

I think we are all our own worst critics so it's normal to feel like a failure when we don't finish a goal. But we're definitely NOT a failure! I FEAR MIC!! It is the hardest workout EVER!! I barely finished it Saturday night and on Sunday I was so wiped out I was useless. I really SHOULD have stopped sooner.

Today...I have to finish the floor work on PLB. I had too much going on today so I will finish it tonight before I am off to a pampered chef party.

I have stopped at that point in MIC before too. It's so stinkin long that sometimes it's just like "enough already! One hour is fine!"

Hey Angie-
You're right, it is the hardest workout ever!! I thought I was crazy when I first thought this because I kept thinking that the IMAXes were the hardest, but this one just kicks my butt!!! I think I might fear it now as well!!
Carolyn

MIC is definitely one of the workouts I classify as a "maniac workout". Like Caren said, an hour into it you are thinking "enough already"!! I haven't ever quit MIC early before but boy have I been tempted. One hour of MIC... don't worry, you were thoroughly "worked out"!!;)

I went back and looked at the "Ultimate Guide to Cathe's Workouts" in the Video and DVD forum and it was listed as a 9.55 in intensity! That's higher than any of the Imax's and just under The Terminator. Next time I do MIC, I'll have a portable defibrillator handy. x(

All the time! For me it's usually for one of two reasons:

1)I'm out of time & late for work.
2)I'm just plain bored.

#1 is really not a big deal for me--as long as I get a solid 30 minutes of cardio before work I figure I'm doing OK.

#2 happens with workouts like Step Blast & Step Works. I'm ADD & I'm sorry, but I have a lot of trouble going through a routine 4 times, much less 6-8. Which kind of sucks b/c I usually end up missing the most intense part of the workout.

When it comes to weight training, the answer is no, I almost never stop until I complete the routine. I always do cardio before work, but I hit the gym after work so unless I have a hot date I do the workout all the way through. On the rare occasion I skip back extensions, but it's OK b/c I usually make it up with my core workout on Sundays.

Don't stress. I attempted imax 3 and about died after 3 seg.
Lomax no prob.
Bootcamp semi
Hardcore extreme. Oh my.
I figure eventually. I will do this.
I save the tough ones for Sun . I can sllep in and go for it.
Do what you can . It will Happen.
At least i hope so////////////////////
As Nike says.
JUST DO IT!
Or try like He--!!!!
