Does anyone else skip the calf work?

I did GS Legs for the 3rd time today. But this time I skipped the calf raises because I have short legs with big calves and I really don't want them any bigger (they're plenty defined). I was wondering if anyone else skipped the calf raises.

Thanks,

I am in the same situation but I do the calf work...I think they actually look better since I do the calf work!

I skip the forearm work....

Interesting...that's what I was wondering. I've always done the calf raises before (in my other workouts), but this time I got to wondering if it was making my calf muscles bigger. Thanks for your reply.

I play the piano, so I like the forearm work--but I think I'd skip it otherwise.

I usually skip the calf work, if I do the calf work one day a week for two weeks, I can bet money that my calves will be an 1/2 bigger. I have yet to see this not happen. And it will take me about a month of not doing calf work to get them to lose that 1/2 inch. I'm still trying to get them down an inch. I've managed to lose an inch and half by doing this. So I'm hoping I can reach that other inch soon.

Girlfriend, not only do I skip calf raises, I skip anything I can to save time, including wrist curls, shoulder cuff raises, floor work, you name it. The only problem with Cathe workouts is they are too thorough. I do NOT HAVE TIME FOR THOROUGH. I say hit the major muscle groups, and be done with it. I am NOT a personal trainer. I am a lawyer who works 10-hour days. Give me a friggin break.

I usually do them while fast forwarding the calf section. This way, I still get some calf raises, but not a million of them. I'm a runner and figure that my calves get worked plenty with running.

In Legs & Glutes and Leaner Legs, I only do one calf segment and skip the rest.

No...I love the calf work...it is almost evil }( }( }( }( ! I have huge calves, so I figure it can't hurt!!!

I used to skip the calf work in all the workouts, but I've decided to try doing them to see what happens. I used to wake up with horrible calf cramps whenever I worked my calves, but I'm working my way back into it. I don't have much calf definition so lets hope this works out for me.

I used to skip calf work all the time since I have pretty muscular legs & I didn't want some huge calves after working them out (I like wearing high heels when I get the chance). In fact, I forbade my PT to have me do calf exercises. Now I do them with Cathe & I enjoy the definition I'm getting without any bulk. Of course, it takes me forever to feel a burn...

I also skip calve work. Mine are rather developed from years of stepping. I find it unnecessary for myself. PLB is the only calve exercise I have but I don't do them either. Edited to add: I agree with Nancy, anthing to save some time. I skip a lot of stuff, especially lately.

i do them when i am in the mood. i never use the barbell to hold on to though. too lazy to pick it up again:p

fab,
I just reread my post and that was a bad week, 2 glasses of wine and PMS talking, but I really do feel that way. Sometimes I wish Cathe would make a workout that recognizes that I have about all of 20 minutes before dinner on a good weekday plus a few hours on the weekend to work out, yet I still want to be reasonably fit. I know it's a tough combo, but there must be some compromise.

I normally don't, but when my husband told me that he noticed my calves have grown, I don't do as many of them as I used to. The calf work in GS-Legs is long and painful. This gives me a good reason to do only half the work.;-)

I've always had calves and never wanted more. I think they're more defined now, and that my husband has confused definition with mass. But then again, when he told me that my calves have grown, he was massaging my leg and telling me he could pinch more flesh. I wasn't too happy about that, but then he also said something about not wanting to be kicked, as my calves and by extension, my legs, would certainly have more power in them now.:)

Just to show how we are all different. I usually do the calf work, just about all the reps... with 20 to 40 pounds. My calves have gotten more defined but not bigger. I don't grow muscle easily.
