Do you wear shoes around the house?

Sort of a silly question, but I know some people wear their outdoor shoes around the house. If you do this, don't you find that it's awfully messy? I know with our climate, it just wouldn't work.

If you don't wear your outdoor shoes around the house, do you just wear socks (bare feet in warmer climes)? Or slippers? Or do you have special shoes that are for the house only?

Weird question, but inquiring minds want to know;)

I do not find your question weird at all. :)

I will wear my black Isotoner slippers when I am indoors. The ballet style kind with the nice padding on the bottom. I love, love, love them. They are super comfortable. They are much better than wearing socks around the house.

I didn't used to, but have had some feet issues (plantar fasciitis from running) & my podiatrist told me NEVER to go barefoot. So... I bought a pair of Born sandals (on sale!) and LOVE them. They feel great on my feet & I don't mind wearing them in the house. I can NOT wear tennis shoes in the house, for some reason it just bugs me. And I don't allow dirty shoes in the house either. My kids are trained that their shoes come off as soon as they come in the door.

So I say if you don't want messy shoes in the house, buy a pair that's only for indoor wear... JMO!

I live in a similar climate and, yeah, that would be messy. DH and I always take off shoes at the door and usually it's a barefoot/sock thing. The only exception is that, for me, if I'm going to do chores of any kind I put on "indoor" sneakers. It seems weird, till you know how clumsy I am and how much it hurts to vacuum your foot repeatedly ;-)

"...how much it hurts to vacuum your foot repeatedly..."

Okay, that made me howl :7

I wear slippers around the house in winter, with a hard sole. My feet get too cold otherwise. In summer, I'm usually barefoot. And yes, we take our shoes off the instant we come in the door. I also keep towels at the doors to wipe the dogs' feet off. I just thought maybe I was obsessive, but I guess not:)

I take my shoes off the minute I enter anyone's house. It is something I have done all my life. I remember going to parties as a teenager and seeing 60+ shoes at the front door. It was quite an adventure at the end of the evening and not only did you rememeber to wear clean underwear, you always made sure you didn't have holes in your socks.

With all the pesticides and crap floating around this toxic world, I would not even consider tramping it through my house.

I never wear shoes in the house unless I'm moving heavy furniture around or something like that. DH wears shoes in the house more often than I'd like him to, but his feet need the support. He's pretty good about not tracking dirt/mud through the house. Usually. ;)

And vacuuming your foot sounds incredibly painful!!! OUCH!

I couldn't imagine wearing my outdoor shoes in the house. I have a pair of rubber-soled slides that I wear indoors only, all year round. I also couldn't imagine going barefoot, because the floors just aren't clean enough for me. I couldn't bear to get in between the clean sheets with feet that have floor dust on them!

I guess dirt really bothers me?

I do not wear shoes in the house unless I am working out. I keep a pair of Ugg mules by the door so if it's really cold and I need to step outside I can slip them on. Otherwise, it's barefoot for me in the house regardless of the season. In warmer weather, I often go outside barefoot. I have no problems with my feet, for which I am very grateful.:)

Yeah, I'm talented, no? Just today the vacuum fell down a whole flight of stairs, AND I vacuumed up my cat's favorite toy and had to empty the bad to get it out.

Good Times! :p

Funny you ask this because I was thinking to myself a day or so ago that I was weird because I wear shoes or sandals at all times. I have indoor shoes,I have outdoor shoes, I have shoes that never leave my home gym. My DH says I am the woman that has a shoe or every occasion}( . I use to be the complete opposite and use to be barefoot at all times but how I find I need that support on my foot.

When you have hardwood floors & pets, slippers are a must. Otherwise you risk stepping in lord knows what. ;-)

I have something of a slipper collection. I have lightweight slippers to wear in the summer & heavyweights for the winter. My very favorites for cold weather are the fleece slippers from LL Bean. The only problem is washing them--I'm a little compulsive about washing my slippers. I mean, you wear them every darned night, if you don't wash them every couple of days it's kind of like wearing the same pair of socks over & over. EW!

Anyway, hoping to get another pair on sale (they're so expensive!) so I can alternate while one pair is air drying (takes about 3 days LOL).

I never wear shoes in the house unless I'm working out. I either go barefoot or wear socks (if it's cold). I hate wearing shoes in the house. If I could go barefoot at work I would too!

>fasciitis from running) & my podiatrist told me NEVER to go
>barefoot.

We are a wear-the-shoes-in-the-house family. Floors were made for walking on, ours are hardwood and easily cleaned, so no worries as to having shoes in the house. HOWEVER, I am also a victim of Plantar Fasciitis and going barefoot just hurts! So, there is no way I can go barefoot in my house or anybody else's for that matter!

I take off my shoes at the door...too messy is right!! I usually walk around in slippers, unless i am cleaning or working out. I will put on clean sneaks

According to the FlyLady, you should always wear shoes in the house. Slippers and sneakers don't count. However, I religiously wear my slippers in the house. If I'm really tired and running late, I'll wear my slippers to dd's art lessons too. I try not to make it a habit since I find myself praying my car doesn't break down.

I usually go barefoot, or wear 'slipper' socks or slip on some clog-type shoes (if I'm going to the basement, where the floor can have cat litter and 'stuff' on!).

I did have to go to the emergency room one time, when I jammed a used (for testing cake 3 days before!) toothpick in between two toes, but that still doesn't dissuade me from wanting to go 'bare' down there!

I always, always, always wear shoes in the house. The only time I don't wear shoes is when I'm in bed. I have plantar faciitis, too, and I must wear good shoes with proper arch and metatarsal support.

I wear my outdoor shoes indoors when the weather is fine, otherwise, I change shoes. I only wear gym shoes when I'm working out -- I usually wear a sandal in the house, like Naots or my new Finn Comfort shoes.

As a family, we don't wear our shoes inside. The only exception are my workout shoes, which have never been outside! Most of our family and friends automatically take their shoes off when they come over, but I NEVER ask people to remove their shoes when visiting.

I have a 10-month-old who spends every moment on the floor. The less dirt on them, the better I feel!
