SOB!!!! i had to take dh's truck to the store b/c i don't know how to change one. even if i did know(which i actually sort of do but wont admit to men) i wouldn't do it. i know, kind of girly of me , but i don't care!!!

I do know, but DONT change it.

Godda give my DH something to do!

Makes him feel wanted.

Anyways, Im a girly girl too and I have my fingernails to think about, and my dignity about bending over.

You know, years ago my DH taught me. But he is such the "fixer of things" around here, that i don't think i could if i had to.
Could i jack a car up??? Probably not!! Great question.. I think he is going to have to give me a refresher course LOL

You and me both Jes! I would rather sit & wait for DH or anyone else to do it too. There is no way I'm changing a tire & I'm NOT ashamed of it. And yes, I'll pump gas if I'm driving on fumes, but I'll only put in $3 & let DH fill up the rest when I get home.

For such a tough chick, that is pretty girly of me.:* :D }(

I can change a tire almost as fast as my DH can.

My dad made me change his pickup before he'd let me drive on my own. So when I get a flat, I change it. I've changed flats in the dark on the interstate, with my kids in the car. Hubby was 80 miles away at Guard duty, so who would do it for me. Noone. So I did it.
A trucker called the Highway Patrol saying a little girl was out changeing her tire. So a patrolman came to help, but all he ended up doing was tighten up the last 2 lugnuts and he also put the flat in the trunk. He was quite impressed.

Now yes, if DH is with me, HE can change the tire. I've had to change more than he has, so it's his turn.

When my girls get old enough to drive, guess what, they will prove to me that they can change a tire.

Yes I can! When I was about 16 yo my dad came into the house and said "Come with me." He then proceeded to show me how to not only change a tire but how to take it off the rim, find a leak and patch it. It was really weird at the time but now I see it as his way of trying to connect with me - he wasn't really good at relationship stuff - and it's one of my best memories of being with my dad.

So yes I can!!! - But like so many of you I won't,unless I absolutely have to.

Some car dealers offer "powder puff" mechanic courses that teach the non mechanically inclined basic stuff replacing a tire, topping off fluids and (OMG!!!) changing a wiper blade.

Of course on the subject of changing tires, I've had to have my truck towed to a garage once to get a tire replaced because the shop that put them on used that air wrench and over tightened the lugs.

Dave

Yes I can change a tire IF as Dave said the lugnuts have not been over tightened with an air wrench by some overzealous mechanic who rotates my tires.

I know how it's done in theory, but have never put it into practice. Really, I think the hardest part is getting the jack to work. Oh, and getting the nuts off if they're rusted. I'd just call AAA. That's what I pay them for.

Yes I am proud to say that I do. Of course, with Dave's caveat.

I'm such a tomboy that I also used to be able to do the whole tune up thing, oil and timing belt included! My husband and I used to do it together. But that was before all the car engines went electrical and injected, and finding the oil filter takes 3 hours. Now we just take it in to the shop!

I know how but thank goodness I haven't had to in about 20 years.
I pride myself on being self sufficient. I also had my daughter's father teach her how when she was a teenager.

Some man skills are good to have, IMHO.

Yes! When I was 17, I got a brand new car. Mom drove it home, and made me change a tire on it before I could drive it. Looking back, it was one of the best things she could have ever done. It's saved my butt more than once.

My DH is wonderful about things like this too, but he's often gone (He's a pilot). It's peace of mind for both of us. I have roadside assistance too. However, I can change it in about 15 minutes, rather than wait forever on them! :)

I know how ,but you may need a really lot of strength to get those nuts off. Most of the time I am sure a guy will come and help. I told my dh that I guess this leaves me in a vulnerable spot. Dh says that is why they invented a cell phone.

Well, I'm proud to say that "in the day" I changed a flat tire but hafta admit that the last one I got (sliced the sidewall on a curb cutting a turn too close), I had to call me DH to the rescue because I couldn't get the jack outta the trunk. Since he uses power tools to put the lug bolts on, there would have been no way I could have gotten 'em off with the lug wrench supplied with the jack. AnyWHO, made me feel like a damsel in distress being rescued by my knight in shining armour. I'm a lucky woman! He did, however tell me, "Now, don't do that again!"
