For all you fitness addicts.....who does kiegels? At my age [40tt] and childbirth.....I was thinking it was time to start them. If you are one of the smart ones that do them, how many and how often?

I do, but I am pregnant. It was recommended that I do 60 a day and work up to 120. Presently, I do about 80 a day..sometimes I forget and do nothing. Also, it's supposedly good to tighten and release on three steps, each step getting more tight or loose and then release after the 3rd count...does that make sense? But, I hate these and find them too hard to do...

I voted no. I forgot about Kegels. I used to do them back in the days when I did the Firm. I just don't see the need to start doing them anymore, but they supposedly have lots of benefits besides helping you strengthen the muscles in that area to prepare for childbirth. Maybe if Cathe adds them in future DVDs I would be forced to start doing them again.

Yes I do them - remember, your pelvic floor is your friend! :) They're good for your sex life, to prevent prolapse and help prevent incontinence issues. Especially as you get older and your hormonal levels change, it's important to do everything you can to keep everything 'strong' if you know what I mean. ;-)

ETA - You asked about the specifics: I do them whenever I think of it, used to be daily but I've been a little lax lately (We moved and I'm still getting everything back in order, so my regular routine is all off) About 5 minutes or so of sets of 5-10 with the last one held for as long as I can.

I read somewhere that an easy way to remember to do your Kegels is to do them in your car while you wait at the red lights while driving.

However, here in the DC area, if I did Kegel's everytime I waited at the red lights around here, I could crack walnuts with my va-gee-gee!

I love these responses. I too hate to do them. They seem too hard. Maybe it's just that they are a different sort of exercise. Cathe should include them in her workouts as we can all benefit from them. I plan to incorporate them into my morning workout. I really don't want incontinance issues down the road.

I do it whenever I think about it - usually when I am folding clothes or sitting at the computer. I like to multitask ;)

Is this a day for polls, or what! :D
