Do you buy Christmas Presents for your pets?

I've never done this, but I'm actually thinking of doing it this year. I have a cat and a dog. My cat is 17 years old and I've never bought her anything for Christmas because she is so finicky. My dog has been around for about 6 years, but just started being a house dog over the past year after my other dog died on New Year's Eve. I am so attached to this dog now, that I want to buy her something. Unlike the cat, I know she will love anything I buy her. Of course, if I buy her something, I'll definitely buy for the cat also so she will not feel left out. :)

Do you all buy your pets gifts. If so, what do you buy?

I have always bought Dog or Cat stockings for my wonderful family of animals!! I am sorry for the loss of your dog on New Years.. ;( I have been there myself. Had to put my favorite wolf down last May. He was 15 though....cool dog... :) and yes...you do get attached...:)...Carole

Kelley,

I'm sorry for your your loss this year. :( It is so hard, just like losing a family member.

Yes I always by my kitty a stocking full of toys, treats, cat-nip and down in the toe, a can of starkist tuna. He just likes the juice and only gets it about twice a year since too much is not healthy for them. He LOVES his tuna Juice!! He also gets a larger item, like a bed or Mat.

This year he also gets some canned shrimp and sardines in water. He might not like them, but I try. We don't have human children so we/I spoil him. :)

For your dog you might try a knuckle bone (cow joint I think), I saw them at Petco. Or a chew thing that she doesn't get often. Anything that she doesn't get regularly would seem like a treat.

Have a good holiday and let us know how your "kids" respond to "santa". ;)

Sorry about your loss as well.

We Always, Always buy our car Rubin a gift for Christmas. It started when the children were younger (moons ago) that the cat gift started, because they thaught it was mean Rubin never received anything......... and the tradition has continued since.

Its a bouncy ball, or a squeaky toy, always wrapped up with tons of paper because he loves the sound of ripping paper, more than his gift actually. He then spends ages amongest ALL the paper, ripping, chewing, spitting out the soggey paper, making a GIANT mess, then finally, taking a cat nap under the tree

I hang a stocking with treats and toys for each of my pets. I think I started it for the kids too, just because our pets are part of our family. Actually all my pets are spoiled rotten and they don't know if it's Christmas or just another lucky day :), but we do it for fun and it makes a good tradition.

Definetly!! Our dog is our "little girl". She is 5 now and still gets excited.:) For dog lovers out there i highly recommend to put a Jumbone in your dogs stocking they love them!!!!!!

April:)

I buy a few things for my dog but nothing serious. He doesn't really like toys all that much and there are only a few chewing bones that he likes. But he loves his little treats so thats what I buy him.I will wrap it up but he never unwrapps it himself but he knows what his treats are.

I used to before our daughter was born. I do buy Duke a nice bone, but nothing for the cats. They could care less. It's just so fun to see Duke when he gets a new bone, he snags it out of your hand and runs upstairs to devour it in private.

As far as our dogs are concerned...Christmas comes everyday!!!

My husband jokes that when he dies he wants to come back as one of my dogs :7. He spoiles them just as much as I do :7 .

Absolutely!!! Bogey gets his presents wraped and opens them with his little paws. It is the cutest thing. So spoiled!!:)

Yes, I always get my two cats Christmas gifts. I've got a 12 year old all black male cat and a three year old female tabby. I usually get them catnip toys. I don't get them food treats because they are on "diets" (aren't we all?). Interestingly enough, they always get presents for my husband and myself, the sneaky little buggers.

A word of caution, if you wrap you pets gifts, don't use colored tissue paper. I did that once and it took me forever to get the green dye off my cat's white face!

Have a great holiday,
Shelbygirl

I usually get Max a big bone - which he devours in about 15 minutes.

Last year (I had too much time on my hands), I made homemade dog bisquits for everyone that I knew that had dogs. You wouldn't believe the comments I got about how the dogs loved them. This year I was just too busy to do it.

I sometimes get them something special for Christmas, but more often I get them special things throughout the year: fresh catnip, new toys (I just picked up some small superballs for Bobsie, who likes to play "Soccer" in the kitchen); new pet beds (Scooter was very sick recently, and I bought him a soft, thick hooded cat bed to snuggle in while he was recovering from surgery: he hasn't shown any interest in it, but Mandy likes it); treats (and yes, they know that word!); even their own furniture (I bought a new cat tower when I adopted Mandy, so there would be one that was new to everyone, and she wouldn't have to feel like she was invading anyone else's territory when she used the other two cat towers).

Spoiled? I'd rather think of it as "well loved"!

When I was a kid, we always had presents for the cats: we hung up little Christmas stockings for each one, with their names on, and would give them catnip wrapped in paper, or long pipecleaners (one of our cats loved to play with long pipecleaners twisted into a spiral: she discovered this new "toy" herself when she found one of my art projects that had a pipecleaner on, and she went nuts over it!).

I've always given my dog a Christmas (and Birthday) gift. After my son was born, now gifts come from Santa. hohoho
This year I'm going to get him a Kong, where you can put a treat inside the hard rubber toy ~ it'll keep him busy while I'm at work. Plus, treats in the stocking.

DH and I get Christmas gifts for our pets, and they ALWAYS get to open them early - like last week early.

The dogs get toys and new Nylabones or Greenies, and the cat gets a catnip toy and treats. This year the cat also got a container of freeze dried salmon treats - stinky!

Thanks for all the great ideas. Neither of pets has an actual bed of their own, and I think that is what they will get for Christmas as well as a stocking with treats. My dog actually sleeps on our love seat. She made this her bed on her second night of sleeping in the house. It is a new leather love seat, so I keep it covered with a sheet. I bet she would love new bedding. My cat normally sleeps in someone's bed between someone's legs, her favorite spot. But I think she would love one of those covered beds as she loves to hide, especially from the dog.

And thanks to whoever gave the tip on not wrapping presents in colored paper as I do have a white cat. :)

Oh, absolutely! Not only gifts, but they also get to eat off the table a little bit on Christmas Day, too. But be careful--the little sneakers are likely as not to find their presents and open them before the big day (so, of course, you'll have to go buy more).

I grew up with dogs my whole life as well as a cat...have always had a Christmas stocking for them :)

My cat would get a small toy and catnip every year. He was great fun to watch all strung out on the nip! LOL :7

Our dog would get a bone, a toy or something like that.

Never spent a lot of money but since the animals were part of the family it only felt right to give them a little something on Christmas morning.:)

Happy Holidays!
~Wendy~

My dogs get chrismas, birthdays, halloween, valentines.....it's rediculous. dh and i have no kids, so our two dogs are the "grandkids" to our parents. they all send gifts for all these occasions. My dogs even have thier own sequined stcokings with thier names on them to match mine and dh's. sick i know. Also, all of our friends have dogs and we exchange pet presents. In fact, today is petsmart day. if i get them to early they find them under the tree and unwrap them too soon. Little buggers!

I usually buy tunna and salmon snacks. My cat loves these snacks. He is 17 years old. Every year in the 31 of december he had a bath and I put a red bow in his neck.It is my tradition in the last night of the year. He is a siames. One of the things that makes me appreciate Cathe is that she is an animals's lover as I am.
