Do all iTunes movie downloads take forever?

To download, I mean?

I just this afternoon loaded up iTunes on my computer, and poked around their movie store; my plan was to purchase and download a few movies to then transfer to my iPod Classic (which has lain unmolested in its little box since I bought it in February 2009).

Well. I found "The Wizard of Oz", a nice old cheapie, and began the download

four

hours

ago.

I think it took less time to shoot, edit and distribute this movie than it's taking to download.

Is there ANY way to speed up this process for future movie downloads? I'm kind of stuck in the moment with this one, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA!

I've had movies take 2 hours or so to download. I guess it depends on the computer you have...somebody that is wise about processing speeds, etc, please chime in! :p

Also, maybe there was a virus scan or something running in the background that slowed it down. Whever I go crazy that our computer is slow, my husband checks it, and it was the computer doing a scan or some kind of update...

A-Jock,

I've purchased TV episodes through iTunes, and if it's in HD, it's a pretty big file and can take a while. I think a 1-hour episode took more than an hour to download.

You can check your download speed to make sure you're getting the speeds that you're paying for. This site does a speed check for you (pick any city on the list):

Also, some ISP's (Comcast comes to mind) have been known to throttle down speeds on downloads from some sites.
