Diet Restrictions and supplements

This is open to any and all:

I have tried a couple of different supplement shakes in the past. One was creatine-based, if I remember correctly, and the other was Myoplex (the shake in the Body for Life program). The creatine-based supplement caused me a lot of abdominal discomfort (I suspect from allergies - see below), and the muscle growth was really too much for my liking. I really enjoyed the Myoplex, though, and while I was on the Body for Life program, I experienced good success.

However.....

I was reading the ingredients of Myoplex one day and saw that aspartame was used as the sweetener. This was about the time that I started cutting anything aspartame out of my diet. I won't go into the details here, but my dad is a biochemist and warned me about aspartame (Nutrasweet, Equal, etc.) and strongly advised me to avoid it at all costs if I valued my health. I did my own research and concluded that he was right, so when I saw aspartame in Myoplex, I decided that this was not a supplement that I would be able to take anymore, even though I got great results from it.

Additionally, I am allergic to eggs, peanuts (and other nuts), chocolate; and I'm lactose intolerant. As such, there aren't many dietary supplements out there that I can use.

Long story short, does anyone have any recommendations for dietary supplements that don't include eggs, lactose, nuts, chocolate, or aspartame?

Hi there,

I drink Arbonne's Figure 8 protien drinks. They are vegan, no artifical sweetners, colors or flavors. They are high protien and low carb.

I agree with you about the aspertame! I too won't go into any details but gosh, it sure is in a lot of stuff hu!! I quit drinking the diet pop a long time ago and tho I don't drink much pop at all, maybe once in a great while, I will have a 'real coke' vs. the diet with that stuff in it!!

Anyways if you want to check out more info about the Figure 8, you can go to my website at:

www.healthforlife.myarbonne.com and then you will see a link at the bottem of the page to the figure 8 info.

I'll bet you're safe with many Spirutein flavors, as well as rice protein powder and other soy-based powders from health food stores.

HI Teresa,

How do the shakes taste? I went to the site and they seem reasonable. Have you used anything else in the Figure 8 system?

Rhonda

Thanks for the info. I will check out the figure 8.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my system is very sensitive to soy. Somebody mentioned soy-based products, so I thought I'd better bring that up. For example, I can't eat Asian food with a lot of soy sauce in it because it gives me almost a cross between a "burning" sensation and a "hunger" sensation. It's the same reaction I get after eating shellfish, which leads me to believe it's an allergic reaction.

Sucks to be me, huh? :) I'm allergic to all the good stuff (whether it's good for me, or just tastes good)

EDIT: I will also check out the local health food store to see if I can find "spirutein" and/or rice/based supplements. I didn't even think of that. Duh!
:p

>There's also rice protein. It's not bad, but it needs to be
>flavored. Use frozen fruit!

When I was on Myoplex, I flavored up my shakes with orange juice (rather than using all water) and frozen strawberries. Occasionally I'd throw in a banana. It was a good way to get my fiber, my Vitamin C, and my supplement all in one.

TIP: What I'd do was buy whole fresh strawberries and freeze them. Every day, I'd take out about 3 to blend up in my shakes. It really did help with the flavor.

Thanks for making me remember this little tip.

Hi Rhonda,

Well to me, the choc. tastes like those choc. whoppers or malt balls. But I usually mix it up with the Orange Fiber shake (which reminds me of an Orange Julius). The Vanilla is 'ok', I guess I am more of a choc. nut than vanilla.

I drink the choc. protien drink, fiber shake and then I eat the chews. And are they ever yummy!! Especially the holiday one, pampermint. It reminds me of peppermint taffy. The choc. one reminds me of a tootsie roll. The Citrus, well, that's a hard one to explain. And I couldn't stand the eggnog (and I LOVE eggnog).

They also have a 45 day money back guarantee. :)
