Well....it seems you get slower with age...:)...It was a bit cold up in Oregon at 55 degrees as compared what I have been running in..75-80! I had a very good run though as it was cooler it is alot better for running this tough trail run. A beautiful course and the part I liked best was passing those 3 younger girls about 3 miles before the end. Not competitive though...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/8/superbiggrin.gif[/img]....Carole

Congrats, Carol. 15K is a nice distance. I'm struggling w/ heel spurs right now and not running while my husband and 2 teen-agers are. I ran a 7K last fall that was great. I did a 1/2 marathon a few yrs. ago and was horrified when i got burned by a guy in his 70s! It was his 6th 1/2. I never ran another . . . .
Good for you.
Valerie
:)

Thanks Valerie....sorry about the heel spurs...:(...but hey...I've been passed by 60 & 70 year old men myself. When those heel spurs heal up...maybe you can get back out there. I do wish my DH ran...:)...Carole

Great job Carole. Your running ability impresses me. Even when you post your "off" days, I just wish I was even up to the level you are on your "off" days...:)

I ran my first 5K last fall. I only started running in March 2004 and did this in Oct 2004. I was passed by an older gentleman close to the end on a BIG hill. He ran past me like I was standing still shouting "I feel a challenge coming on". Halfway up that hill I was praying for the end but I kept going. I just could not get over that man practically sprinting up that hill... LOL....

Thanks Jane...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/_950/wink.gif[/img]. I have to say, I am not sure what it is...but some men seem to get great pleasure passing women...but trust me, if you keep on competing. You will get even... }( ..Carole

Way to go Carole! I commend you on your competitive spirit...nothing like a little challenge to bring out the Cathe hidden in all of us.

Tammy

Thanks Tammy...:)..I completely agree...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/w/thumbs.gif[/img]...Carole

You're awesome Carol!!! Another great accomplishment for you.

You are truly an inspiration to me.

Diana

Alright, Carole! I like that story about your passing three younger runners. I bet that felt good, huh?;-) Boy, I wish I could run like you. Wasn't born for it, so I'll get my kicks from your posts.:)

Pinky

Awesome job, Carole! There's nothing wrong with a little friendly competition. Put those young girls in their place!}(

Marla

Thanks Diana...:)

Pinky...you are a sweetie..:)...no, not everyone can run but hey, you look awesome without it!!

Marla...thanks...although I don't set out to compete most of the time. It is kind of addictive. Sometimes the problem with passing is you have to kick your butt to stay ahead so they don't catch you...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/r/wrysmiley.gif[/img]..Carole

Carole
Wow! You ARE an inspiraton around here, and I always read your posts, now I need to get rid of My PF and heel spurs too... :+

Thanks Nadine...:+

Thanks too Judy...:D I have a very good running friend that had PF for some time. I know she taped her foot in a special way to help the pain. Physical Therapy helped her alot too. I do hope yours heals soon...:)...Carole

YOU ROCK!!!!! Go Carole! Double cyber high five! Way to go!!!!

jes

p.s. if it 's 50 degrees in Oregon in July, i may want to move there!

GO CAROLE!!! That's fantastic. Sounds like a great run.

I find it really humiliating when I get passed by people pushing running strollers, myself;)

A 15K trail run! I am truly impressed and in awe.:) Running on unpaved surfaces is not easy. No only are you helpful to me and others you are also an inspiration.

BTW, have you read the new Runner's World? It's got a pretty good article about a three day training plan for your fastest marathon ever. The plan fits right in with my schedule so I think I'll give it a try. If you haven't seen it, it's essentially speed work one day, a midweek tempo run and then a long run. The speed work varies from 400m to 1600m repeats. The tempo run is anywhere from 3 to 10 miles and is run at 10K pace or 10K plus 15 to 35 seconds. The long run is run at your 10K pace plus 60 to 75 seconds. In addition, your advised to cross train hard.

I'll let you know if it works! :D
