dh takes chromuin picolinate. Is it safe?

My dh has been taking CP for about a month. I don't agree with taking supplements for weight loss. He exercises and and eats fairly well so I don't understand why he needs this. He says he uses it to get the fat off his stomach. I don't know if CP is safe or not. He takes BP medicine and I don't know if he should take this without seeing a doctor.

Do any of you know if this is harmless or something he should find out about. I don't think he should take it to lose weight quick when he exercises and eats healthy. IMO people who don't exercise and want to lose should take a supplement. But only then it should be safe to take.

So could someone tell me that what he is doing is harmful or harmless.

I know that it is bad for your liver.
When my DH took it while we were just dating, it made him very moody and mean. You have natural levels of chromium in your body already, and if I remember correctly (it has been over eight years since I researched this) it takes away your body's ability to produce it on its own.
On the bottle their should be a list of the side effects.
I have to idea how it is taken with BP meds.

There is no supplement you can take to get fat off your stomach. You get fat off your stomach by eating as clean as possible and exercising to burn fat.

I found this as well:

"Chromium Picolinate is sold over the counter as a nutritional supplement. Chromium works with insulin in assisting cells to take in glucose and release energy. Chromium Picolinate has not been shown to cause weight loss and its ability to improve insulin effectiveness is being questioned."

"I've seen Chromium Picolinate advertised recently as a "metabolism boosting" diet supplement. Is there any merit to this claim?

Quite frankly, no. Initially there was some speculation that since Chromium is a component of the hormone insulin that additional Chromium would enhance insulin's ability to break down glucose. Research has not supported this concept."

Hope that helps.

Shelley I know what you mean. It urkes the fool out of me when he gives the credit to this crap. He lifts weights, runs twice a week and plays basketball some with our son. Why does he need this. Whenever he mentions this stuff I just roll my eyes and it makes me mad.

We were in GNC one day and he was looking at this particular pills. He ask the worker would that supplement burn stomach fat and the man said only cardio can do that. I couldn't believe a salesman would tell him that instead of selling the product. And of course my dh said yes that is what my wife said.hah!

I wonder if he'll listen to me.

Just to underscore the above responses. It has been proven to be ineffective and can have a detrimental effect in large doses. And, as Shelley said, the only ways to get the muscles to appear under the belly fat are clean eating, cardio and ab work. No quick fixes here.

An honest salesman? What a find!
