Hello All,

I am hoping you guys can give me some advice, motivation or something to light a fire under my butt! I finally have gotten exercise into my daily routine. However, I can't seem to get my diet under control. I seem to do well for a few days or a couple of weeks and then I fall off the bandwagon. It has been kinda of hard since I never had to worry about my weight until I hit 30. I don't know what to do to stay on track. I really need to lose 10-15 pounds. I need to stop the off and on again pattern, but don't know how.

Thanks for letting me whine!!

Hi Kimmy,

Have you tried keeping a food journal? There is a good site you can use for free--www.fitday.com. I was in the same boat you are -- needed to lose 15 lbs. I joined www.weightwatchers.com, $59.99 for 3 months. It's the same as the meetings only without the meetings. I use the journal & am having success keeping my eating in line. I joined 4 1/2 weeks ago & have lost 7 lbs.

Using a food journal keeps you accountable to yourself. You have to be brutally honest & write EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. This makes me stop & think, "do I really want to have to write that in my journal?" For example, yesterday I was grocery shopping. I have been DYING for potatoe chips. I walked past the little "lunch box" sized bags & threw one into the basket. I carried it all through the store. When it came time to check out, I put it back on the shelf because I didn't want to use the points (4 or 5) on something that would only then make me crave sweets & I didn't want to put that down as a snack. Instead, I came home & had some carrots. I felt much better for it. Now, I will have those chips on Sunday when we have a barbeque!

I have to agree about fitday.com. I was having trouble losing weight, and then I started journalling a month ago with fiday, and have lost 10 lbs :)

Hi, here is what helped me.
1. Always eat when you are hungry (should be every 3 to 4 hours at least)
2. Always stop eating when satisfied - NOT full
3. Don't clear you plate
4. Try to make healthy choices
5. No food is off limits, everything in moderation.

The first 3 things really helped me to gradually lose about 10 pounds. Everytime I was eating, I would ask myself if I was satisfied, if I was, I would throw out whatever I was eating. Good luck!

Debbie
