Desperate times call for ... (sorry, long)

and I'm ready to take those desperate measures. Not stupid, mind you - just desperate. I'm at my wit's end. My weight will not budge and I'm so sick of it. I need to drop about 15 pounds, mostly on my legs and butt - we know the story. I was all ready to do the August Boot Camp rotation ion September when the kids got back to school, and then 3 days before I was to start I sprained my ankle, blah, blah, blah.

So I've been faithfully - and yes - I mean very faithfully following BFFM. Two weeks ago I started freestyling, and in that time have missed only one day. And I feel BIGGER! The weight's not budging! On the diet end I do think I'm one of those endomorphs with carbohydrate sensativity. I really believe that the problem is coming from the smoothies I've been having for my second meal. It's not bad, still comes in around 300 calories, but has too much dairy and fruit. (I think I have to be a David Kirsch follower re: these categories) In fact, here it is: .5 cup NF yogurt, .5 cup NF cottage cheese, .5 cup blackberries and blueberries (total, not each) .25 cup oatmeal, 1 packet splenda, and 1 scoop protein powder.

So welcome October. Ankle's better, and you all loved the boot camp rotation, so I'm undertaking boot camp with freestyling. Is that crazy? The diet will be modified to cut back on the dairy and fruit and monitor accordingly, but I really wanted to ask if you think it's nuts to go for that much working out. I know that some of the days are very similar to freestyling, but I need to try this. On the agenda for today: Body Max with those jacks and pushups, and freestyling. Better make sure to get those electrolytes huh? Thanks for letting me ramble.

I think we could all call for desperate measures sometimes.I don't know what program you are trying but you may want to watch your cal intake, and I am sure you are well aware of this. When I have shakes, they are only around 200 and when its a bar I try to keep it at 150 cals.
I don't think your crazy. The rotation I am doing now is super crazy so you are quit sane actually
Good luck and keep us posted,
Lori:)

If you do the entire Body Max tape, I mean the cardio section that includes the circuit section with leg work interspersed with cardio, this is enough leg training for one day. Any more and you will simply run out of steam later in the week.

The Bootcamp rotation was max-tough as is. To add more to it is excessive, beyond excessive. I would never consider it. Muscles do need rest time you know! And as I said, overtraining in this way will lead to drop in energy, not increase, and possibly sickness and another injury.

Stick with the Bootcamp roation as is, then do a different rotation another month and add the freestyling in then, when the ardio work is not so intense.

I did the Bootcamp rotation with the addition of a swimming at least an hour 5 times per week, for a total of 15000 yards a week. It made me extremely tired, and I had to have 2 rest days per week, not one, so stretched the rotation out a little longer. I cannot imagine tacking on weight lifting to it, it is tough. Remember, losing weight is probably 90% diet, and 10% exercise. Really take a hard look at what you are eating.

The second thing may be harder to accept. Do you really need to lose 15 more pounds. Sometimes people are at a good weight for their body and don't realize it, but the body knows and does not budge because of that.

Lorrie...we have talked about this so you know how I feel..:)...I do believe you could add Freestyle to the Bootcamp rotation on the days in the rotation that you don't work your legs. As Freestyle is 70% less weight and more reps it isn't quite the same as adding 2 or 3 days of heavier legwork to a rotation...your muscles don't get worked the same as heavy weight work with Freestyle. Just remember only work the legs 4-6 times a week. I have found that Freestyle has strengthened my legs very well for running. But also there is a small percentage of pear shaped ladies that Freestyle hasn't worked for. I only know of one person on this board. I am very glad to hear your ankle is better...:)...Carole

Lorrie,

I'm that one person that Carole is talking about. Freestyle did make my legs bigger and I followed the plan to the T. I believe I am one of those extreme endomorphs too.

I think you may be on to something regarding your eating. My body is much leaner if I stay away from dairy and fruit but I don't make a habit of cutting them out of my diet anymore. I certainly limit it with only one to two pieces of fruit a day and keep to those fruits lower on the glycemic charts like peaches and apples. I eat non fat cottage cheese once a day. I don't eat any starchy carbs after lunch.
