Depakote (valproic acid) anyone?

Hi folks:

My psychiatrist prescribed Depakote for me as a mood stabilizer.

Even as I disagree in part with his diagnosis, I wondered if any of you have ever taken this drug and if so, what was your experience with it?

I have a list of questions (as always!):

--Did you suffer side effects?
--How long did they last?
--Why did your doctor prerscribe this medication for you?
--How long did you stay on it?
--Did it produce results? Were you happy on it?
--Anything else I should know?

Hi!

I have a friend who is Bi-Polar she was placed on Depakote for a couple years. She didn't have any side effects that she considered intolerable and she felt it really helped, the struggle is finding the right dosage and I hope they still do blood levels with this med. She is doing really well now, at one time she was taking several now she is on only Zoloft and doing great . She found out she had an auto immune virus and was treated with some heavy duty drugs a couple years ago, ever since then she has required alot less psych meds. Good luck
