Dental Hygenists

Is there any dental Hygenists here? I have been to the dentist but still no answer so I thought I would post the question here. On the left side of my mouth the guns are red and real dark red spots, hurts when I brush and the floss feels like razor blades into my gums on that side of my mouth. It is hard to eat anything hard or slight hard because it hurts my mouth so bad. Does anyone know what might be happening to my gums? I am going to go back to the dentist, he thought that if I kept flossing that it would help but it is getting worse.

I'm not a dentist or a dental hygienist, but I think you should give your gums time to heal. Keep flossing once a day (if you do it before going to bed much better), and be careful with your toothbrush (buy one with soft bristles or one for sensitive teeth and gums) and go easy when you brush in that area, and also don't use an alcohol based mouthwash because that will irritate your gums even more. While you wait for the day of your appointment maybe you should go to a drugstore and buy an ointment for irritated gums like Anbesol. That way you will numb the area and it won't bother you while you're eating or during the day. If your dentist didn't mention it could be a sign of gingivitis I wouldn't be worried, but keep checking if your gums are bleeding (not just that side of your mouth, your gums in general) to make sure. If you go to the dentist and your gums are still sore ask your dentist if there's a medication that can help you heal.

Hi lesliemarie. I am a dental assistant which means that I am a dentist's "right-hand". I have a couple things for you to consider that could be a culprit. Do you drink a lot of soda or lemonade? Things that are very acidic like tomatoes can cause problems. Have you started taking any new medications recently? Have you been under a lot of stress? It would be hard to diagnosis what is going on without seeing the sore areas first hand. Since you are still having problems hopefully your dentist will be more thorough. There is an over the counter product called Rincinol that works like an oral bandage. It has a very mild taste and works great for canker and mouth sores. You might give that a try. I wish I had the answer for you. I know how miserable you must be.
