Denise Austin?

I have not heard her mentioned on this forum since I have been on here and wondered if her Yoga DVD's were any good. I bought Rodney Yee's DVD for Back Care and seen several DVD's for her. I don't want to waste my money if she is a no no. Does anyone have any opinions? Thanks so much.:) :)

Not to sound curmudgeonly, but whenever a fitness joke is told, usually Denise Austin is in the punchline.

I've never heard anything good about her products from other fitness professionals, although clearly she's eye candy. Have heard she's always offbeat, sometimes unsafe and usually an insult to the physical and mental intelligence of the savvy consumer.

Enough said, no Denise Austin DVD's. The only workout DVD'S I have are Cathe's and The Yoga one I just bought of Rodney Yee for Back care (since I have been having problems with my lower back). Just trying to branch out to a few others. Any suggestions? I have seen Sharon Mann on FitTv. How are her DVD's? Sorry about all the questions everyone but I figure that is the only way to find things out. Have a great day!:)

Hi,

If you're looking for good yoga videos, Ali MacGraw has one (don't worry she's not the teacher) that's beautifully done. If you're wanting power yoga, I've heard exceptional things about Byran Kest's videos, which you can get from collagevideo.com

I like Karen Voight's Yoga Focus. It has 2 workouts. One yoga and one yoga/stretch. And yes I do have one by Denise. It's not soo bad. If you can resist the urge to tell her to be quite and stop showing so many teeth!

I'm not sure what Yoga DVD's I am looking for, I have not done Yoga before. Does Ali MacGraw only have one or do you know the name of the one you are talking about? Are all of Bryan Kest's DVD's good? Thank you so much for the help.:)

LOL Annette! I bought one of her videos when I first started working out & it took all my willpower to keep from putting my fist through my tv screen!

Hi everybody!

Well, she sure isn't the most professional ;), but she is the one, who acutally got me started exercising, in particular starting to weight lift. So I have to thank her, that she made a better me. :)

I wouldn't be able to do one of her workouts anymore, because they are just too lame, unprofessional and not challenging at all.:-(

Just wanted to put in my 2cents :)

Normally, I would agree with you all, but Denise Austins 21 days to a Yoga Body got good reviews on videofitness and collage so I decided to give it a try and I love it! I have been doing advanced cardio & weight training videos for a long time but I haven't done much Yoga. I thought hers might be a good place to start, but it's actually pretty hard.

Even if you don't like her or Yoga, there is a great 15 minute stability ball ab workout at the end that I don't think anyone could argue with.

I got some great Yoga workout advice on this forum--you guys are the best! I found Bryan Kest's Power Yoga DVD at Media Play, Sears Grand, and Best Buy (saved on shipping, plus I had a $7 coupon for Media Play). I really love it, although I've only gotten through the first section (Energize). I like his instruction, but I can't stand long hair on guys (I know I'm in the major minority here). I also picked up Karen Voight at Target--I really like her. This program I can do well, being new. I also have tried a couple Gaiam produced ones featuring Suzanne Deason (Yoga for Weight Loss and Stress Relief Yoga). They were more of the soothing, stress reduction type than the power, workout type. I like having both kinds.

I've found Yoga to be a wonderful addition to my workout routine.

I agree with Carol. I got the Bryan Kest DVD she has and it is very good. I have only done the first of the 3 workouts also. Long hair on guys is not my thing but I like his Yoga so it really doesn't matter. I also picked up a Byron babtiste VHS tape at target for $6.99 and I like that one too. As for Denise Austin I agree completely with A-Jock. If I had ever got one of her workouts not doubt my mute button would be worn out... }( ....Carole

She can be a real pain in the tush, but occasionally she puts out a decent workout.

I LOVE long hair on men! What's wrong with you ladies??!! LOL

Ruth;-)

I just can't deal with Denise's personality. Try Bryan Kest.

And I love long hair on men too, starlight. ALL the guys had long hair when I was young and dating. Including dh, who has NO hair now. ;-)

This is gonna make me unpopular, but I used to do Denise tapes a lot when I first started exercising and she's never bothered me, I actually like her. Maybe I'm just as big of a dork as she is :)?! Anyway, Tony Horton irritates me a lot more. I have been wanting to try Bryan Kest, so I'm sure that will be my next Yoga purchase

I can't comment on any of Denise Austin's workouts, but I find her very annoying..she's just a little too upbeat for me and her voice just grates on my nerves!

I'll second the Ali McGraw yoga workout. Collage used to carry it, but I've noticed they don't have it in their catalog anymore.

I think you can find the Ali McGraw yoga dvd on deepdiscountdvd.com
- I think it was there last time I looked!
Good luck!;)

I recently bought the Ali McGraw DVD from www.deepdiscountdvd.com for about $8. Definitely worth the money. I really like the workout and the production (setting, music, visual beauty) is fantastic.

Bryan Kest's workouts are great too.

Edited to add: I LOVE the hair. ;-) ;-)
