I am addicted to color! I have so much paint going on in my house, and yet it works...at least I'm told it works;-) Style used to be sort of primitive, but now it is simpler. I had way too much stuff happening! My motto was "if you have enough color and clutter, no one will notice the dust" from a plaque I saw in a store once. I think my style is comfortable...whatever that is!

Hi Robin,

I know what you mean about antiques. I have a few pieces, but that's because I've been able to develop a relationship with a couple of dealers and I know I can trust them. They also offer a money back guarantee if you find that an item is not authentic. I don't know all that much about antiques but I'm starting to learn. Many things of interest to me are simply out of my price range.

I have a lot of reproduction redware pieces. I live in southwest ohio and have easy access to Workshops of David Smith and Greg Schooner, both of whom have been featured in magazines like Early American Life. I really love it. It makes a room look so cozy.

I also have some Pennsylvania House furniture. Mine is about 15 years old and I was just thinking about replacing it. The wood pieses in my living room are Craftique. I found a tea table in a book on Williamsburg and I scaned the picture and took it to a cabinet maker near here. He was able to reproduce it. It took 2 years for him to finish it but OMG, it's so pretty.

I'm sorry, i think I'm going on a bit too much. I just love this thread. I would also love to see pictures of everyones home. I'm probably the only person in America that doesn't have a digital camera.

Sorry for rambling on.:+

Style? There's a style in decorating? LOL!

I'd have to call mine eclectic.
I definitely gravitate toward real wood, simple lines. Actually more like a student mish-mosh of whatever I picked up over the years.

Hmm...maybe I should start thinking of a "style"! My sofa needs replacing, so that's a good start. My "style' would be like the stuff you see in Gaiam catalog, but without the meditation chairs and low tables. "new agey"? (I hate that term). "Neo-hippy"?

Michele,

I don't have a digital camera either. Or a cell phone. I just got an answering machine last Christmas. I would like to see others picutures too, but alas, I don't have internet access at home. I'm at work and everyone's picture trail is blocked.

How do you display your redware?

Dani, I'm with you about color, but I'm chicken when it comes to my own walls. I painted the livingroom last fall and was thinking of dark reds or greens, but ended up with the same old beige.

Hi buffettgirl,

I'm so glad I'm not the only one living in the dark ages, although I do have a cell phone and a computer. LOL

Most of my plates are arranged on black, wrought iron stands on the shelves flanking my fireplace. I also have a few more on a wall rack that hangs vertically in my family room. My family room walls are faux painted in kind of a gold/wheat color that is complimentary to the slip trailing on the pottery. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for asking:)

Robin,

My DH is highly involved in the furniture delivery business. We have a leather couch, chair and ottoman from Pennsylvania House. We get some awesome deals on furniture. I work furniture sales myself on ocassion and was selling the Mission pieces from Oregon at Costco's. Gosh, it killed me as I wanted some pieces for us, but no deals there. :-(

Charlotte~~

Charlotte,

Most of the PA House stuff we got quite a while ago. DH was a hard wood lumber inspector and the mill he worked for sold lumber to PA house. We bought most of our furniture at cost, which was great for newlyweds just out of school.

Michele and anyone else,
Did you do the faux walls yourself? Was it hard? Again, it was something I wanted to try, but was afraid. I seem to have a decorating phobia!

I'd classify myself as modern traditionalist. I love some traditional items however they can sometimes get a little heavy, that's where the modern comes in. I don't go to far with the modern though, sometimes the furniture starts looking a little eerie....

Robin,

I wish I could do my own faux painting, or even regular painting for that matter! I have absolutely no abilities in this area:-( I paid a fortune to have someone do it then my SIL turned around and did her whole house the same way all by herself. Hers looked just as good as mine and she was completely self-taught. The technique she used seemed pretty straight forward. She applied the glaze with a sponge type brush in a pattern of squares and rectangles then blotted it off with a rag. I don't know what you call it exactly. It has kind of a rustic look. I'm really happy with it.

I think you should have a category for "I do what I can with limited resources, I spend all my cash on Cathe workouts"!!! :D

I don't really know what my decorating style is, but I know that my apt. really needs a makeover. I have this one glass container that I love that I got from Hold Everything that I think sums up my style. I have no idea what style it is. I wonder if I could show it to a decorator and have them decorate the whole apt. around it. Do you think it might be possible?

Yes, Nancy I do think that is possible!

Hiring a decorator? That would be a dream come true for me. If you hire one, let us know. :)

Lori-
First we have to pay for my stepson's wedding; then we have to redo the kitchen. Then, in a few years, we may actually get around to decorating. Everything in life just seems so darn expensive! x( I'm trying to limit to just one major expense per year. :(

Robin, Faux painting was surprisingly easy, really! I colorwashed my bathroom, and have used the Ralph Lauren faux suede in my computer room. I was very nervous about doing it but got great results. You'll find alot of instruction at Home Depot. On the weekends they even offer classes. The colorwashing does involve some technique, but the suede was simple. One warning though, stay away from the sandwashes! I used the BAER sand-like paint in my kitchen and it was (and still is) not good! And later found out, that very few people can get good results (even experts). Look into it, and ask a few questions and have fun! Worst case scenario, you paint over it. It's one of the cheaper ways to experiment! Have fun Carolyn

Interesting question!

I'm not sure what you'd classify mine as. I have several family antique pieces of furniture mixed in, but the rest of my house is closer to classic or comtemporary... clean lines, minimal knick knacks, lots of big windows, high ceilings, cream leather sofas, glass top tables, light maple wood floors, black granite fireplace, white tile, etc.

I'd like to know what mine is called! LOL!

Sounds lovely!! Boy, I sure envy the family antiques. I have a decorator friend and I have heard her use the term "soft contemporary". I bet your style would fall into that category.
