December Fat Loss

Hi Girls and welcome to December!!

We all know this month gets crazy with busy schedules, family visiting, festivities, holidays, shopping, cooking, et cetera - lets do our PERSONAL BEST to stay motivated, keep on track, and at the same time not beat ourselves up!

I have just ordered Xtrain, LIS, CF, and TTM and am so excited to start working out w/ Cathe again once those arrive. In the mean time, I will be doing non-Cathe workouts for the first 7-10 days of December while I wait for my DVDs. :)

Hi Ladies,

I didn't sleep very well last night and am draggin'. My training partner and I are supposed to go for a short bike ride today. Neither one of us has been on our bikes since the Tri. I'm not sure how my knee will feel when trying to clip out. It may be necessary to switch my clip out side.

Yesterday was STS disc 10, again, and BodyRock Challenge Day 5 I think. I'm doing STS week 4 again since my bicep and shoulder strength are not where I want them to be. Biceps were much better yesterday, but shoulders are still a bit behind. After I finish the next 2 discs again, then I will take my rest (from STS) and maybe try some step. I really miss it, but definitely not the pain it causes my bad knee.

Candice-Welcome Back!! What have you been up to over the summer? You will love FlexTrain, and TTM is a super fun one and the time just flies by! Have you checked out Cathe's November or December rotations? They might be fun to start back with. I've lost 20lbs with WW, since May. I'm super excited about that, but still have another 10lbs to reach goal. I also did 2 triathlons in the summer and a HM in October.

Hi Sue & Tina-check in when you can and let us know what you are up to.

Hi Girls!

I've been reading and reviewing some of the super-helpful threads I'd posted earlier this year about nutrition, working out, motivation, etc. I am so glad to be back here. I spent my summer over at VF (and those are great boards, don't get me wrong!) but it feels GREAT to be coming back to Cathe.

I graduate from college in 6 days! I am very excited for the accomplishment part but also very excited to have much more FREE TIME!!

Today I'm going to do a FIRM Zip Trainer workout while I sit eagerly awaiting my new Cathe DVDs to come.

Diana - thanks for the warm welcome! I have really missed you guys! I am excited beyond belief to start back to Cathe. My summer consisted of FIRM workouts and spending time at VF while busting my behind in school and working a lot of overtime! I will definitely check on those rotations too!

And a wave to Sue & Tina!

Hi Ladies! Yesterday was my first workout in a week, STS D7. Tina you're right - tons of pushups - I was NOT a happy girl! I don't have a good reason for not working out - I just didn't prioritize it and it didn't get done. I've been struggling since I decided to become a morning workouter. I've also been eating too much junk which showed up in today's measurements. Time to put my blinders on and not get distracted by all the good eats.

I have a trip this month. It was supposed to happen during the active recovery week but was pushed back a week. Now that I'm a week behind on STS it will fall during my recovery week :)

Welcome back Candice! Thanks for starting the new thread :). Looks like you've been busy & it's about to pay off with a degree - big congrats to you!!!!!

Diana how are you biking in your neck of the woods? I'd assume it's too snowy/slushy there? You are doing so well on your weight loss! Is the 20 lbs just from May to now? Have you tried wearing a brace for step to help your knee? I never do black Friday shopping. I'm the type that gets uncomfortable in a too-crowded elevator.

Tina are you guys indoors on the trainers yet? My pie crust this year was only slightly better than last year. I'll keep trying through Christmas then hang up my spurs until next year. Right now I'm leaning towards a polar loop activity tracker bracelet and a polar h6 heart rate monitor. I had a Jawbone up when they first came out but returned it after two different units malfunctioned. I have been wanting a HRM for some time but the ones I've seen in stores have so many buttons that are intimidating. The polar setup has one button and a phone app, much more my speed.

Happy December ladies - time sure flies!

Hi Girls!

Checking in w/ a FIRM Zip Trainer workout (FIRM & Cardio Lower Body, 30min)! Can't wait to get back to Cathe though now, and I am kicking myself for ever selling my DVDs...good thing the black friday sale was so good though!!

Diana - I forgot to say in my last post but CONGRATULATIONS on that weight loss! That is so awesome!

Sue - it's so good to chat with you again!! I'm so happy to be back! And yay for your trip & your STS rotation working out perfectly!! A couple of things you mentioned - 1) the Polar HRM. I really want this too! And a treadmill! oh boy, the list goes on and on for fitness-related goodies, huh? 2) you also mentioned a knee brace (not in regards to me, but still lol) which I am glad you did because I think I am going to snag one up for my knee. Sometimes it yells at me and that is part of the reason I fell off the Cathe train last time - my knee was bothering me.

I feel like this month is going to FLY by! Happy December everyone!

Good morning Ladies! It's been awhile since I checked in. Thursday was off, Friday was M1D9 and XT Legs, standing only premix. I finally peeled the wrapper off of PP on Saturday, loved it! Yesterday DH joined me for another spin workout.

Welcome back Candice! Thanks for starting a new thread. Last I remember, you were considering a big move. Are you close to work, or did you move to the city? Congratulations on finishing all of your schooling, will there be a big celebration next week?

Sue, nice timing on the rest/travel week. I hope you're going some place warm. Our temps have been in the teens, way too cold to cycle. Even our nightly walks have lost their appeal. I've been looking at the new Fitbit and the reviews haven't been great, lots of chatter about having to return faulty ones. DD is still asking for one though.

Diana, fantastic that your DG's are coming to your house for the holiday. Two sparkly bikes sound like the perfect gift! I hear you on the lack of sleep. DS is STILL very sick, he was up again last night, so of course I joined him to keep him company. We're really worried about him, so sleep hasn't been solid for awhile. How was your bike ride? I hope your knee felt good.

Off to do M1D10, time is just flying by. I hope you all have a great day! : )

Good Morning Ladies!

We have a cold front coming. Our temps for the week, 65,40,12,10,15. It was in the mid 50's on Sunday for my bike ride. There a was cold breeze, my knee hurt and my training partners hip hurt. We only rode for 30 minutes and a fairly flat route.

My PT suggested I contact an orthopedist, he thinks it could be a meniscus tear. I hope to pick one out and schedule an apt for the first of the year, when my annual deductible starts over.

Yesterday I did BR Challenge Day 7, bootcamp class, and sts disc 11. Today will be the next BR w/o and tomorrow will probably be CLB. Then I'm taking a few days off from STS!

Tina-glad you had a good Thanksgiving. Hope your son is feeling better. I have the fitbit flex and really like. I keep looking at getting force. I wear my fitbit 24/7, working out, showering, swimming, pretty much only take it off to charge. The force can't be worn swimming or in the water. I'm not sure if your daughter is a swimmer. It does have some additional features though, such as the display. Since I never had one with a display, I don't miss it. I can synch it with my smart phone if I need to know my exact steps. The light indicators are good enough for me.

Candice-What is your degree? I got my degree as an adult and the thought of going back to school sounds dreadful to me. Glad you were able to get some Black Friday Deals!! Sounds like you are back on the fitness bandwagon.

Sue-how are the morning w/o's coming? If I don't w/o in the morning, it just doesn't happen. The 20# weightloss is since the end of June when I started back at WW. I've been staying within the same couple pounds, but still have 10 more to go to reach my goal. It's definitely a battle. We have snow in the mountains, but we've had mild temps so far. Snow is coming tomorrow though, 2-4 inches predicted so far. I do have a knee brace that I wear sometimes when I sleep. It causes me to limp more when trying to step with it on.

Hope you all have a great day!!!

Hi there girls!

So I have some great news to share....today I turned in my last and final assignment for school! It's not official until my degree confers on Dec 6th but I now have my BS in Sociology!! YIPPEE! I am so happy/excited/proud/releived. I had no idea how hard it would be to put myself thru school as a working adult but it has been a roller coaster and I've gotta say I'm glad its over!!

I am so excited that my Cathe DVDs are on the way. Sadly I am a west coast-er so it takes a week for them to come via UPS ground. Oh well, they will be totally worth it!

Hi Ladies,

No workout to report for yesterday. I didn't sleep Tuesday night and was dragging yesterday. All I managed to do was eat, eat, eat.

This morning will be CLB and tonight is class.

We are in the middle of an arctic blast, the temp is -9 right now with a high of 9. BBRRRR.

Candice-I'm so happy for you, and proud of you too! Congratulations!! I know first hand how hard it is to go to school as a working adult. My kids were 2, 8 and 10 when I got my degree. It was a real struggle. What kind of work do you want to do? Will you be changing jobs, moving etc?

Hi Tina & Sue, bbl to see what you two are up to!

Hi girls! Popping in to say hello and check in with a ZT workout. This week I was asked to interview for a promotion so Tues and Weds were spent preparing for it, Thursday was the actual interview, and then overtime, and suddenly it's Friday! Snow day AND official graduation day!!

A wave to Sue and Tina!! :) and to answer your question Diana, I'm actually staying here in western Washington and hoping to get promoted. I work as a claim adjuster for an auto insurance company and I really enjoy the work - it's very interesting!!

To catch up; Finished M1W4 this week and did Imax 1 and Kickbox Xtreme for cardios. Also added Bodyfit 360 as well. This morning was a slushy 30 miles. Tomorrow will be a spin workout, I'm not going out in anything below 25 degrees.

Candice, how was your graduation? Did all of your family attend? Good luck on getting that promotion. Sounds like everything is looking up for you! Congrats! : )

Diana, how's the knee doing? Is that what is keeping you up at night? Thanks for sending your arctic blast up this way. The next few days will be seriously chilly. :/

Hey Sue, I hope you've found your a.m. workout groove. How have your workouts been this week?

I'm really looking forward to circuit/cardio workouts this week!

Hi Ladies,

Well my active rest week from STS has come to an end. Starting Meso 2 today! I'm also keeping up with the BR rotation, on day 12 now.

I didn't get to my weigh in this week since I worked from home and wasn't going out in the nasty -temps to weigh in. I've been weighing daily and am about the same. I'm hoping to lose 2lbs this month, it's going to be tough for sure.

I'm scheduling a visit with an orthopedist surgeon for early Jan. My PT thinks I may have a meniscus tear which is why PT isn't working. They'll do an MRI to determine the actual problem. If it meniscus, they do arthroscopic outpatient surgery for that. I want it all taken care of in January as the recovery process is a full 16 weeks to get back to normal. I need time to train for my triathlons, hopefully 3 this year and one will be an Olympic distance :), the other two are sprints.

Tina-Great job finishing M1! I can't believe you ride in the slush. I'm far too scared to do that on my road bike. I'm not digging our frigid temps either.

Candice-good luck on your promotion! I'm sure you will get it, especially since they came to you! Let us know how it goes. My oldest sister is looking at retiring in Washington. I'll find out where she's looking, but it may be closer to Oregon.

Sue-hope you are doing well. Check in and let us know, okay?

Hi girls! Just a real quick midnight check-in to share that I did my first Xtrain workout tonight and loved it! Will post more tmrw! :)

Hi girls! Back this morning to finish checking in w/ day 1 of my XTrain rotation. I did a 30 minute Burn Sets premix and I loved it! It feels great to be working out with Cathe again. Her professionalism, the DVD quality, everything is just amazing. It feels great to be back!!

I'm also very excited to start lifting heavy again. The heaviest DBs I own right now are 10#s. I am definitely going to need to get some that are heavier as I was not able to lift to failure. Regardless, it still felt GREAT to be lifting again!!

Thank you all for the well-wishes regarding my promotion!

Hi ladies - checking in with a 35 min premix from Cardio Leg Blast. What an awesome workout. I can't believe I had strayed from Cathe. After doing this DVD I am promising myself never to shy away from her workouts again. I am just in a thankful awe at how awesome these dvds are. No dread, professionally-made productions, and just real, solid moves. I LOVE IT!

Hi ladies :) Sorry I haven't been checking in. I'm just meh lately. My cardio has been walking. I have one more workout (d11) to finish off meso 1, then I leave town from Thursday to next Tuesday. I'm not sure what my activity will look like while I'm away.

On cyber Monday the polar loop & HRM I wanted dropped in price so I snatched them up. I've been wearing the HRM during weights and the reported calorie burn is surprisingly high. I do get pretty winded during M1, I'm not sure if it's accurate or not.

I have been failing at working out in the morning. I need to rethink my strategy. I'm a slug in the morning, I just want my coffee & my todo list. I've weaned myself down to decaf but I still need my morning coffee first thing.

Candice - good luck for the promotion. You've been doing so well on your workouts. I can't remember if the 35 minute premix for CLB is the cardio only one? I love that premix!

Diana - I hope you don't need surgery! What would your recovery look like if you do? Good luck on the 2 lbs this month - I'm hoping to not gain (any more).

Tina I can't believe you rode your bike in the slush! It's got to be freezing up there! I'm glad you enjoyed PP - it'll be nice to have the new workout when you spend more time on your indoor bike.

Good morning Ladies! I'm really enjoying this cardio week. Sunday was PP, DH really enjoyed it. Monday was AB and AT back to back. I took an Advil before bed, I might not try that stunt again. Yesterday was RK in the morning and a spin workout with DH before dinner. It's too cold and icy to do our after dinner walk, so I've needed the double workouts. This morning I have FT on the schedule.

Sue, maybe you're not ready to start morning workouts. It took me a few tries before it stuck. Nice job keeping up your walking schedule. I still say that is one of the best things for your fitness level. I hope your trip is taking you some place interesting. : )

Candice, you're rocking the workouts this week. Xtrain is really tough, and the premixes are endless. It's so nice to have you back! : )

Diana, how is Meso 2 going? I really hope you don't need surgery this winter, I can't imagine how awful that would be for you. Keeping my fingers crossed it will heal itself before January.

I'm in total denial that there is an impending holiday on the way and pushing all shopping until panic sets in. This may explain my anxious snacking that been plaguing me lately. No wonder I put on that extra five every winter. : /
My goal today will be to only snack fruit and veggies between meals.

I hope you all have a great day! :)

hi ladies :). I finished up meso 1 today with d11 chest/triceps. I'm so glad to have that behind me. tomorrow I'll do a short one, maybe my one easy tabata or hit 30/30. Then it's off to Chicago for an extra long, frosty weekend.

Tina did you reach your goal on snacking today? my sweet tooth has been out of control since before thanksgiving. I would never tack on a workout after AB, you were in beast mode :). my Christmas shopping is easy. a friend is buying gifts for his kids from me and I'll reimburse. gift cards for everyone else :).

Hi Diana & Candice :). I hope your day has been mahhhvelous :)

Hi Ladies!

Checking in w/ Burn Sets (premixes 6 & 7 ... bi's and tri's only...about 30 min) and decided to try the cardio-only premix of Hard Strikes. Definitely glad I did!! I was really in the mood for some add-on cardio and the kickboxing elements helped to loosen up the DOMS I was feeling start to creep up in my legs. :)

Sue - don't beat yourself up too much! Look on the bright side that at least you are walking each day. Something is better than nothing!! Adopting that mindset has done wonders for my fitness life!! I can totally feel you on the morning workouts thing. I have tried multiple times but maybe Tina is right...maybe it's just not right for you right now. :) I think there is something to be said for listening to you intuition! You gotta do what works best for ya!!

Tina - thank you!! It feels AMAZING to be back to Cathe. Honestly, once I took a break from Cathe, my general dedication to fitness took a major nose dive. I was FIRMing a little this summer but then FIRMs turned into barre which turned into yoga which turned into 10 minute and 7 minute workouts which turned into doing one 7 minute workout a week and saying "I worked out this week!" when I know/knew that I wasn't giving my all.

I'm pooped - I woke up at 4:45 AM, worked from 5:15 to 6:50 from my laptop at home, went in to work from 9 to 5:30 but ended up having to work even more overtime from 5:30 to 6:45. And then I got in dinner and a workout. I threw on a blemish facemask real quick before my pre-bed shower and then I am hitting the hay!!

Hi Ladies,

No workout for Tuesday/Wednesday. I didn't get much sleep and had no energy to w/o. I took melatonin last night and woke up with enough energy for a workout this morning!

My normal WW meeting location has moved and its not as convenient. Yesterday I worked from home and went to a location near my house to weigh in. I really liked the leader. My weight was up .5 over the last 2 weeks. So much for losing this month. Perhaps my goal should be to maintain and even that is proving challenging. I haven't' been tracking like I should, but other than my 2 rest days...I've been kickin' butt with my w/o's!

I seriously need to get busy with Christmas etc. Our tree isn't up, house is not decorated, gifts...well I've ordered 2 gifts online, 1 for each of my older boys. The girls are coming....I have a lot of work to do. Needless to say, I will be busy this weekend for sure. I may have to enlist some family members to help me out.

Candice-I think Xtrain may be my favorite series from Cathe. You are putting those premixes to good use! Definitely get yourself some 12's, 15's and 20's, you will be needing them soon enough!!! When do you find out about the promotion?

Sue-Don't be so hard on yourself. Honestly, you should exercise when it is most convenient for you. Glad you are liking your new fitness gear. I use my HR monitor for cardio only, and CLB. Track the numbers over time. It's just a tool to encourage you too work harder the next time you do that w/o. See if you burn more/less calories and your HR is higher/lower the next time you do that same w/o. If it is meniscus, the surgery recovery is 16 weeks to get back to pre-surgery activity. That would still leave me time for my tri-training. Bundle up in Chicago! I've been there a couple times and for work and would love to spend more time there.

Tina-enjoy your double w/o's. That was my mainstay when I was younger. I'm toying going back to the gym by my work. I cancelled that membership and got a membership to my local rec ctr. It was nice to just run over there at lunch at get a good sweat on!

Have a great Thursday!
