Debra-did you do your half?

Hi Debra,

I know you have been training for your second half-marathon. I'd love to hear a report. I was thinking it was in January?

Andrea

Yep!

Hi Andrea,

Ran a 1/2 on Superbowl Sunday. Beautiful run on Pacific Coast Hwy in Huntington Beach (sea level!). I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, 2:04, which put me in the top 20% of my age group. The 1st 2 miles took 25 min because there were so many people. I never made up the time. I've a lot to learn about pacing.

DH ran the marathon & finished in 3:46 (his goal was 4 hrs). He took off too fast (they started the marathon group in front of us) & ended up running slower & slower. He was toast but he recovered quickly the next week.

I made a dumb, really dumb mistake, the next week. I did an easy spin on Wed & then tried a short recovery run on Thurs. Ended up injuring my hip flexor & quad. Think I was just still really tight from the 1/2. Anyhow, I have to avoid impact activity for a few weeks. Can't do lower body strength work yet either. So I finally have the DVD's & all I can do is upper body & core! Plus Pilates, some yoga & lots of stretching. I'm getting a bit tired of Tamilee Webb.

Are you enjoying the DVD's? Saw your post on S&H & was wondering if you'd tried the pyramids yet.

RE: Yep!

That's a great time! I've also got something going on with my lower back on the right side and my right hip. I'm sticking to upper body and spinning this week.

I got the new DVD's but don't really like the pyramid. I haven't done the lower body one yet, but have tried upper twice now. The abs on it are great. I don't know how to use it yet. The supersetting doesn't allow me to go heavy enough. By the time I get to the lighter weight if feels too light. I'll have to play around.

I recently got Back Care Yoga for Beginners. I'm not really into yoga, but this is more like a stretch tape. Probably wouldn't do much for your quad/hip flexor though.

I'm ready for it to warm up so I can start running again, and racing this spring/summer! I wish you a quick recovery:) Thanks for the report.

Andrea

At least a few weeks of aches & pains help us to appreciate how good it feels when we're injury free!

I'm finding that PUB requires more mental focus than S&H. Maybe just pyramiding up is the answer?

Take care.
