I met Capt. Johnathan Hillstrand on Saturday! He was at a local music festival/fair, and my sis and I walked up there (about a mile from my house) in the blistering heat, and stood in line 2 hours to get to meet him!!! He signed my copy of his book, and I bought a "Time Bandit" cap, which he also signed. I also got a picture of him with my sister and me. (He and my sis look fine, but I look like the creature from the black lagoon, so I'm debating whether I want to post it or not!)

He was there for 3 days from 1 pm to 9 pm signing autographs, etc, and he took his time with each person and was very nice. Cool guy!

A man walked up to me while I was waiting in line and asked me, "So, is this guy really that famous? Is he a comic? A singer? Who is he that all these people would stand in a continuous line for 8 hours all day in the heat waiting for an autograph?" When I told him he was a crab fisherman, etc, the guy just looked at me like I had 2 heads and walked away shaking his head!!

The festival was also raffling off a chance to win a fishing trip with Johnathan that took place this morning at 6 am. I didn't enter it because I get seasick, and I was going to try to win it for DH, but although DH loves to fish, I couldn't see him going at 6 am!

I'm still recovering from heatstroke:), and all the terrible (but delicious) "fair food" that I was "forced"to eat because I was there!!!...but it was a fun day and I just had to gush about it!

Have a great day everyone!

It sounds like a great experience. I have always wondered what these guys are really like. We see them when they are under a lot of stress physically and mentally so I wondered how their personalities are different when they are relaxed.

I know what you mean about being sick after fair food. I call it a food hangover. I feel really ishy for the first day and livable the second. It reminds me why we work so hard to eat well every day.

That is so neat. It was a sad season on Deadliest Catch this year but it is interesting to watch what these men go through. I would never want to do that.

OOOOoooooh! I am so jealous! Johnathan is my favorite captain! I was traveling this weekend and heard about it over the radio and so wished that I could go! I would definitely stand in line to talk to him! You should post the picture!!

There's something I find very sexy about Johnathan!! I love the show and agree that it has been rather sad this season. I will miss seeing Phil and hearing his great stories and one-liners.

Deadliest Catch is on tonight! :)

I also find something sexy about Johnathan! I've always gravitated to the more rugged types.:)

Ok, so here's the picture. I cut my sister out, because she would've been mad to know I posted it. I was going to cut myself out, too, because I look so horrid, but here it is...

DENISE !!!!

We talked about this when you posted that you were going to go ! I'm so happy that you got to meet Jonathon and that picture is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a little jealous ! DH & I JUST finished watched DC and After the Catch from last week a few minutes ago. I put it off all week because I know it would be so sad and I wasn't sure I was ready for it. Some tears later, I'm glad I watched. There were a lot of great stories about Phil. Those captain are rough, gruff guys but they really loved Phil and aren't afraid to show it ! I love how they are all looking after the "boys".

Thanks for posting and sharing the picture !!!

Oh, he is such a rugged cutie - he's my favorite captain and maybe because he's easy on the eyes ;) That is so cool that you got to meet him. This season has been heart wrenching, to say the least, but it's nice to see these rugged, rough, smokin and cussing men break down and cry and show genuine love for a lost friend.

Boy, last night's show was tough to watch. The shot when the Northwestern passed the Cornelia Marie just sitting there at the dock...it just broke my heart. I think I've cried at some point in the show every week this season... It does put things into perspective when you see these big burly guys shed real tears of grief. RIP Capt. Phil...

I guess he has never met anyone who watches those moronic Housewives of WhereTheHellEver shows. At least crab fisherman actually do some worthwhile work for a living (although I suppose Housewives employs tanning bed owners and boob job surgeons).

Denise...I just had to put my 2 cents in even though they aren't even worth that ...haha
I think you look great!!! ESP. for being in a line for 2hrs and at the fair! I am super glad you posted this because I love the DC and it is great to hear that the guys are like they are on the tv. Super down to earth after all these seasons. They are still the same as when it started!

Thanks guys... Johnathan looks good in the picture, at least! I was ready to die from the heat... It was soooo hot that day, and he sat there taking time with everyone, signing their books and t-shirts and taking pictures with them. If he was annoyed at all about being there, he sure didn't show it!!

I read his book and after reading about all the dare-devil antics he and his brothers got into growing up, it's a wonder they're all still alive! I'm going to read Capt. Sig's book next. Who'd have thought that crab fishing could be so interesting? Sad to see next week's episode is the last one for this season.
