Dead lifts, maybe I'm doing them wrong.

Deadlifts seem to really strain my hamstrings. Am I using too heavy a weight ? Am I doing them wrong ? I really concentrate on keeping my shoulders back and my back straight and I keep my knees slightly bent. My hanstrings are killing me, right above the back of my knees. Any tips/help would be appreciated !!!:)
 
I'm wondering if it isn't a flexibility problem?
Try doing some extra hamstring stretches, and seated stretches with your knees straight, and see if that doesn't help some.
