I am shocked, stunned & delighted to report that I have won my battle against GE Money Bank. I don't know if you guys remember I filed a small claims suit against them for back-interest they illegally charged me & received a judgement for the full amount.
Since then I've sent them the judgement twice asking that they reduce the balance to zero & close the account w/no response at all. I did make one minimum payment just to keep the account current b/c I don't want my credit affected.
Well, one of their attorneys called me today & asked of we could work something out. I told him of course we could. He said minus the judgement there was a little over $100 balance on the account. I said actually, as of the date of the judgement they owed me $10 & that balance was from additional interest charges.
His shocking response was he was going to do everything he could to just reduce the balance to zero & close the account. He said he was 90% sure he could make it happen & that it would require a little paperwork on my part. I said heck, I spent an entire morning in the Newark courthouse, anything else would be a piece of cake after that.
Lesson learned--don't take crap from these huge companies lying down! So many people think they don't have the resources to fight a company like GEMB but sometimes, if you know the right avenues & are willing to pursue them, you can make sure they do the right thing.
