Damages

Just saw Kathryn's post (Damages & Dirt for me, BTW), & I've been meaning to post about the show for a couple of weeks.

First off, I guess I'm a little disappointed b/c it's turning out to be a bit contrived & predictable (I think, anyway). I totally saw Ray's suicide coming, & I knew he was going to do it in front of Patty. And knew he was gay from the very first show. That said, it was a great scene--he so totally set her up!

Also some of the characters are incredibly dumb! WTH would a lawyer pick up a bloody blunt object? I mean, if you walked into your house & saw the placed trashed w/blood all over, wouldn't the first thing you'd do be to look for your fiance? But nooooooooo, she pauses, bends down, & slaps her fingerprints all over the murder weapon. Jeez, even I know not to touch anything at a crime scene, & that's just from reading mysteries.

Anyway, the show is still entertaining & you just can't beat Glenn Close or Ted Danson. I like the fact that there's no pure good (except for that ever-annoying Ellen) or pure evil--all the characters are flawed yet still have So, who do you think killed who? Here are my theories:

Ray killed Gregory for rebuffing his advances.

Lila killed Ellen's fiance (can't remember his name), although this seems a bit too obvious. Still, I can't imagine his sister killing him.

Nobody killed anyone b/c of the Frobisher case. It's all coincidence.

Thoughts?

Wow! You have some great insights about the show! I love watching it too but I agree there are some predictable moments. I know what you mean about Ellen picking up the murder weapon: DUH! I'm beginning to think that Tom (Patti's partner) has some hidden agendas that we don't know about yet either...

I just love the suspense though, how they flash forward and back. Only 1 episode left til the SF!

True, a dumb move, but having never been a witness to a murder, I have no idea how I would react, and I'm pretty sure one gets a bit irrational or in shock.

>Ray killed Gregory for rebuffing his advances.

I don't think so (but I could be wrong). I think someone on Frobisher's side did it, but not sure who. The same person who shot that other guy in the head.

I'm thinking maybe so as well, but you're right...it seems too obvious, and the show has thrown us some red herrings in the past (the blood on Patty's shoe and her hysterical condition seemingly linked to the attempt on Ellen's life and the fiancés death).

Since the two time-lines are nearing each other (last episode was only two days before the murder), there will probably be a resolution in the season finale next week.

While watching this series, I keep feeling like it would be a good 1-year series, but what in the heck are they going to do next year? Almost anything will seem anticlimactic. (I'm thinking there should be more 'limited run' series, like extended mini-series, so that a story could be told over a season's length of time, without having to worry about what's going to happen next year. "Prison Break" was great its first year, less so last year, and I'm not really digging it this year.)

My hubby and I are hooked on that show. We are both lawyers, so yes, it is not at all realistic. It is, however, entertaining. If we wanted reality, we'd just stay a work. LOL.

Actually there are 2 more shows, so we have to wait 2 weeks for the resolution. You just KNOW they'll make you wait til the final minute.

I think this just might be where the show will succeed. I think after Frobisher's case is resolved Ted Danson won't be on the show anymore. I'm guessing (just a guess, I'm not sure) that the intention is to have one case a year that focuses on a new cast member, hopefully someone as good as TD.

Oh, I was looking for a discussion about this show!

Well, you're very good because, although I figured Ray being gay, I didn't see that suicide in front of Patty coming. I was stunned.

And, I was absolutely mislead into thinking the blood on Patty's shoe was from Ellen's attempted murder.

Yes, Lila's killing of David seems too predictable.

I was surprised to see David's sister come back.

And, I also don't see how this story will continue for another season.
