Damage Control December

Hi ladies,

I thought I'd start the month with no workout. Yikes. It wouldn't have been so bad if we hadn't had lunch at Applbee's! No damage control for me today! DH and I went to Sam's club and TJ Max and got a lot of shopping done. By the time we got home and put it all away it was too late to workout-bad excuse, I know. I haven't had a day off in a while though-so today is it!

LL, it sounds like RWH is really working for your time schedule. As far as what to do after it...it's up to you, but I would do what makes you happy! What's the recipe for Chocolate Silk Pie? Is it with a Silk milk-soy or almond? You made two, so it must be a hit!

Tina, I will have to check out the photos of the town in France. That has to be my favorite book this year. I get excited about new series too and can't wait for ICE. I think it'll get my weight lifting back into good practice. Hammer and Chisel was supposed to come out today, but I haven't heard anything about it yet.

Diana, take care of you quad! I hear you about the whole family name draw Christmas thing. My brother and his fiancee have opted out of exchange this year. My brother-in-law is seriously into buying for everyone and I have to work on Christmas this year and host the whole thing at 4PM. I got a little depressed after Thanksgiving...it's so hard pleasing everyone.

Hi Ladies,

I started my work day at 8am with meetings straight through until 3:30. Now I have to work late in order to get my deliverable's completed by tomorrow morning at 10am. We have a ton of unnecessary and unproductive meetings. I've suggested streamlining the meetings and having an agenda to work off of. UGH Tomorrow I start with a 7am meeting.....I need to get my work done and have less meetings.

I modified in my class last night and it was okay. My knee is a little sore today. I'm just doing what I can do and not pushing it at all. Pushing off to jump hurts, but landing doesn't...go figure. Sticking to low/no impact for a while.

Beth-it sounds like you've had a productive day, workout or not! If it's the chocolate silk pie I have a recipe for, it's made with butter and cream, and it's oh so delicious. I almost wish we didn't buy gifts at all. Everyone could buy for their own family. It would be much more enjoyable to just get together for a meal and fun times, without the expense and stress of trying to accommodate everyone. I would prefer to volunteer at a food bank or homeless shelter on Christmas, or simply do something as a family.

back to work...bbl

Today was a 10 hour day at work. Rockout Knockout called to me so that's how I started this month!

Diana, I hope you get off the phone today and get in a good workout!

Beth

Hi Ladies,

No such luck Beth, another 12 hour day for me. No workout to report. I did get 3 w/o's on Monday, and I have class again tomorrow night. These early mornings and late nights are cutting into my w/o's for sure. I am down the 3lbs though since drinking lots of water and limiting the junk!

I can report that I will be going to the UK for work in 2 weeks. I just found out today and they are putting a rush on my corp cc so I can book my travel. I will leave on either the 12th or 13th and come back on 20th. A bit short notice for international travel, especially with the holidays.

Waving Hi to Tina and LL.

Yesterday was Amy's Kickbox Xtreme. Halfway through my calf muscle pain kicked in. I hobbled my way to the end, but it hurt for the rest of the day. I'm only going to do upper body weights today and hopefully a yoga workout tonight. Cycling doesn't seem to bother it, so I'm going to break out some spin workouts for the next week. Only one more week left in Meso 2 and DH is still hanging in.

Diana, that is very short notice for a December trip! Will you take some workouts with you, or just rely on lots of walking? How is your leg doing? Nice job on the weight loss! I'm still not getting on a scale, but since we've backed off cycling, my thighs have really slimmed out. If only my middle section would follow.

Beth, you did RK after a 10 hour shift? That's dedication! The most I ever do after a long shift is walk.

LL, what are you up to?

I'm thinking I'll try Cathe's Ice + XT rotation in January. We should be done STS by the second week. I'm getting so excited for this next series! :)

I always seem to miss it when a new thread is started!

Tuesday I did RWH back bis shoulders two sets only, I was short on time.
Yesterday was off, and today has RWH chest I think scheduled but I just couldn't get up! Hopefully I'll try to get in at least two sets tonight.

GNO last night! Met with some girls I hadn't seen in a long while. But I had chicken stuffed jalapeños fried, good but not awesome. I gained a half pound over thanksgiving, but lost it plus more and now a little up but still down from thanksgiving!

Beth-It's called Chocolate Silk Pie because it's very smooth. It is basically a graham cracker crust: graham crackers, sugar and butter, but I actually bought mine from Whole Foods to save time, it wasn't that good....the pie is just chocolate, butter, eggs and vanilla. And it gets silky because I put it in the cuisinart for 4 min after each egg. So it's four eggs for each pie., a lot of waiting!

Tina, I was looking at the rotations for ICE as well, that one sounds good. I was just thinking about how I really liked the music from Xtrain and thought that series had the best music since body blast, but I'm kind of sick of that one...I never go for it.

Hi Ladies,

These long work days are not fun. I finally worked out today, BR Day 2 and STS disc 17-legs. I'm almost ready to hang up on Meso 2, as designed. If I do 1 STS w/o everyday through Saturday then I can finish this mesocycle. I don't want to rush it just to do it. I'll do what I can this week. I'm not taking any w/o's with me. There is enough free w/o's on the internet and I have a couple apps on my tablet. I don't think there is going to be much time to w/o anyway. I hope we have some time for sight seeing.

Tina-I love Amy's kickbox Xtreme, it's such a long w/o. Great job. I haven't looked at any of the Ice Rotations yet. I think a change is in order and Ice may be just the ticket!

LL-Did you get your w/o in?

Hi Beth!

bbl

Yes! But it was very short 17 min RWH chest tris shoulders. Yesterday was low impact scrambled. Today was RWH legs all blasts. If I can I will try to do RWH legs all strength and abs. But we just got our tree today and will be decorating tomorrow. Diana, you doing STS makes me want to get it. It's in sale today. But since it doesn't have any premixed, I will wait.

Tonight we are at Messiah College for their Christmas at Messiah dinner. Date!

Hi ladies,

Diana, so excited to hear about your trip! I hope you enjoy England.

LL, how was your dinner date? Did they sing?

I've been having some trouble with the whole left side of my upper body after doing Bootcamp on Friday. Every muscle is sore-my neck, back and shoulder. There is no pain, just really sore. I don't know what to do. I'm just going to do lower body and rest again for a week and see if it goes away. It didn't hurt when I did the workout. Am I trying too hard not to hurt it that I'm using bad form? So, I'm back to walking with the weight vest. The weather here has been pretty nice-40's and 50's-and no ice or snow. Wrapping is the task of the day here.

Hi Tina!

Beth

Beth- I'm sorry you're having trouble hit your left side, that sounds really difficult! I hope you feel better soon, it sounds like you have a good plan! Last night was wonderful!! Food was good but not awesome: mixed greens salad with beet compote and apples, my main was a butternut squash dish with quinoa and maple syrup I guess and mushrooms on the side. Dessert wasn't very good: a cylinder shape with chocolate cake on the bottom layer (that's the only part that I finished), the middle layer was an eggnog kind of thing and then whipped cream on top and I don't like whipped cream, so I had less than half of the top two layers. When we got home we had chips and salsa and hummus and I had two squares of semisweet chocolate. The music was wonderful! Jazz band, brass choir, chamber ensemble, choir, 6 students sang together, the mc told some stories in between. I wish that it was with friends instead of Hubby's client, but still thrilled to go. Last year we were invited but Hubby got the stomach bug and the last invite before that was 2007 and we had a wonderful time then.

So, I have to be quick because I need to g ready for church but, bottom line: B has been having frequent stomach aches and has had some tests: neg. tomorrow he will be tied for celiac and full blood work, cbc, rbc, etc. (rhyming fun!). So,I need. Cook gluten free AND dairy free for 15 days! I think Hubby and I ar going to stay GF and DF with him, with the exception on my protein shake. But I may try to find him a vegan one. Meal planning has been thought for this week.

Hi all,

I did Pure Strength Legs and Abs today. I've been massaging the heck out of my lat muscle and it's feeling a bit better. This is getting so frustrating!

Tina, how is your calf?

LL, how is the new diet for B going? Is he old enough to understand?

Diana, are you on the phone?!

Beth

Hi Ladies,

I'm so sick of all these meetings...I'm seriously on the phone all day long. I've started opting out of some meetings as I don't feel they are not necessary for me right now. I worked 12 hours today and could do more. UGH After my 12 hours of working I had to pick up DS2 from the park n ride and go grocery shopping.

I keep coming up with all these tasks I need to do in prep for my trip. Like add international calling to my cell plan, call 2 of my personal credit cards I may want to use to inform them of my international travel, currency exchange...need some euros...etc. On top of all this, there is a ton of stuff that needs to done at work for my travel. My flights and hotel are booked, but I have to get some international travel forms filled out, signed and approved. I'm so rushed. I leave Saturday and come back the following Sunday. I'm also connecting through Chicago...there's always weather delays and cancellations in Chicago. Crossing my fingers that I don't have any travel issues.

Oh-I had to pick up another pr. or 2 of dress pants for my trip...and I'm down a size. :) Not sure how that happened since my weight hasn't changed much. I'll take it!

LL-STS is a progressive program so there are not any premixes. How old is little B? You will get really good at reading labels. It's amazing that dairy is in many products we wouldn't suspect. Gluten free is getting easier as so many folks are following gluten free diets.

Beth-yes, the phone....oh how I hate the phone...ugh. I hope your shoulder feels better. I think it can be caused by poor form. My lower back has been sore and I think it's due to poor form when trying to do cardio, even low impact. My knee is still hurting pretty bad. I can walk, but that's about it. Sunday I did RWH LI HIIT 2, and had to modify some of the moves...like the windmill and the burpees. I've been doing kettlebell swings as my modified exercise.

Tina-how's your calf?? We may have to change our thread name to the Injury Prone....LOL.

bbl

No wo for me today, I allowed myself to to sleep in and was hoping to get RWH CLB in the evening but we needed to do some decorating, I think we are about 75% finished!

Beth and Diana - B is 9 and so he gets it. Today wasn't bad, we had stir fry that was great, with rice noodles that we've had before and liked. But he didn't like it so he didn't eat much.tomorrow will be meat loaf muffin tins with shredded carrots inside, potatoes, asparagus and a salad for dinner. Not sure what chicken I'm going to do for lunch. I have cornflakes I could crush and put on them but I think I usually add parm... Today was a baked garlic lemon zest that they all liked.

I'm falling asleep so I need to run!

We're still having fairly nice weather for December. We did two bike rides this weekend and this morning I followed DH to his work and continued past and made a little loop home. As of today I have a little over 3600 miles in for the year. This weekend looks really nice, so hopefully we can add up some more miles. Yesterday was RWH HUBC and STS M2D22. DH said that was his favorite workout so far, he woke up really sore this morning.

Diana, nice job on the weight loss, although it sounds like it might be from stress. What an awful time of year to send you over seas! Your new name for our group made me LOL! :) My calf is feeling great, but I'm nervous to go back to a full step workout. I'm sticking with RWH workouts for cardio this week.

Beth, I hope you're feeling better today. Maybe the ICE series will be good for all of us for a few weeks while we heal up. I haven't done a PS workout in years. I only have them in VHS. I bet DH would like those.

LL, our DS had similar issue as your DS is having. It was a few years ago and they ran a bunch of tests and everything came back fine. They gave him Zofran for the vomiting and put him on an acid reflux medicine for a few months. He only has issues now when he eats Chinese food or a really fatty meal. I hope all the tests come back negative for you DS. Good luck. <3

Hi Ladies,

Another day of chair sitting....on the phone....UGH. I start my day at 6:30 and am having to work until 7-9pm to get my work done. All these meetings are so not necessary. I did do BR Day 3 this afternoon. I have to make time for my w/o's.

LL-well you are way ahead of me, we haven't done any decorating at all. I don't expect that my family will put up the tree or do any decorating while I'm gone either. Your meals sound delicious!

Tina-that's just it, I haven't lost any weight. Oh well, I'm certainly not going to complain about going down a pant size. I don't really care for dress pants, they don't "drape nicely" on my thick thighs. I needed them so they'll do just fine. I've resolved myself to being okay with not finishing Meso 2 before I leave. This is the first time ever that I have started STS and not finished. It's not a very good feeling. I may try to pick up with Meso 3 when I return....or if Ice is here...I'll start with those.

Beth-what are you up to???

bbl

Hi all,

I've been just walking with the vest and doing my own yoga/stretches afterwards. DH did join me on the mat Tuesday. Maybe it's just psychological, but I think I sleep better after I've done yoga! He has very tight muscles, but I just keep my eyes closed anyway and let him do his own thing. Naturally, now that I've invested in a more home practice my yoga studio sent an email saying they were starting up again in Jan. Now what to do?

Diana, your work schedule sounds really tough on some days. I'm glad you got BR in at least! I'm with you on the dress pants. I have a pair of black dress corduroys that never did fit right. I always have such a gap at my waist because of the thigh circumference. And of course, I think it makes me look fat to have that much extra at the waist.
Have you got all your paperwork in order? Don't stress on the holiday decor-it's not worth it! I've gradually paired down my stuff to the point where I just pull the tree out of a closet with the lights already on it and it's only 3 feet tall! I use kids books to decorate the mantle-nice Jan Brett ones that we read with the boys when they were little-and then a few odd items throughout the house. I've asked my mom to be in charge of the table centerpiece from now on and she loves it! Decorating is her forte and cooking is more mine so it works out nicely.

Tina, 3600 miles a year so far is amazing. I'm glad you're putting the good weather to use. It's been nice walking weather as well. Biking is ok for your calf? I laughed out loud at the Injury Prone check in label! I'm pretty sure I had major DOMS in my lat from the one arm rows in Bootcamp. I don't know what to do to get my upper body back to lifting-maybe ICE and some Cross Train Express. Pure Strength is a great series if you want another. It's very thorough.

LL, how is the gluten free going? Is B feeling any better?

Beth

Hi all!

Tuesday I did Monday's workout: RWH CLB abs mixed in, in the 2 month rotation for RWH, they don't have any circuits until the second month, so today was the first one in a month! Fun!
Wednesday-RWH Low Impact One
Today: RWH BBS, no finishers. Next time I'll do finishers but 2 sets, those finishers I can handle, not all those push ups. I have been trying not to watch all the video clips this time since I want to be surprised. But on FB they automatically start when I looked at the up date and I saw that the push-ups are a mix of toes and knees on the bench. That will probably be what I need to work up to all toes. But I'm still not sure my shoulders will be able to handle it.

B's test came back negative! Good news but we still need to be gluten free dairy free for 2 weeks. The test showed he doesn't have celiac autoimmune disease, but the only test for the celiac gluten sensitivity is to be w/o it for 2+ weeks. He's still having random belly aches, but it's only been 3.5 days!

Gotta make lunch and keep B moving! He's my hardest student keeping focused!

Wednesday was AT and Thursday was STS legs in the a.m. I didn't plan to ride with DH on his night ride, but the temperature was so warm, I couldn't pass it up. Halfway through our ride, I snapped my rear cable. When this happens, the chain naturally rolls over to the hardest gear and there's no getting out of it. I had to stand on my pedals the rest of the ride home, which my glutes were already fried from the a.m. leg workout. I did XT SC yesterday and today I am fully aware of every muscle fiber of the gluteus maximus area. Today is a day off (with a 10 hour work day) and hopefully a bike ride tomorrow. I'll have to ride my winter bike, which stinks, but at least WERE STILL RIDING IN DECEMBER!! Woot!

LL, great news on the initial tests coming back negative for B. Nice job on the workouts. :)

Beth, Jan Brett was just in town for a book signing. The preschool I work for has her books on display everywhere. I love your idea of decorating with them. I miss those nights of reading to the kids before bed. My calf hasn't given me any trouble this week. It seems to be triggered by all out cardio workouts. I LOVE when DH and I do yoga together. He is so entertaining to watch and the running commentary is even better. I usually have a belly ache from all the laughter. It's awesome your DH is joining you. :)

Diana, I hope your meetings slow down soon. Crossing my fingers that all the storms they've been having are over by the time you get to England. My uncle just called from Ireland and said he has never seen weather so bad. I once spent three weeks in Ireland and only saw the sun for half a day and as soon as we came home they had a string of beautiful weather. Your timing might be perfect. :) When do you get home? I plan on doing a Meso 3/ICE rotation for January.

Off to work. Have a great weekend. :)

Quick check in: yesterday I did RWH CUB plus abs 1 and Friday I did RWH Plyo the one with the mat.

I'm a day behind in the rotation, today should be RWH chest but straight from church we are headed into Philly for the Angel Tree Party. Angel Tree is a non profit organization that helps children with parents in prison. Put church buys and wraps gifts for it and today a group of us makes lunch and goes down for a party and handing out gifts. We may not be home before dark. So I will probably do that workout tomorrow. And just fit my rest days in where needed. Last month had 2 days off per week. This month doesn't. That will make it hard. This week has only 1 day off.

Hi to all that follow! I guess we are all busy!

Hi all,

I've been walking lots and doing a little yoga at night. Did I tell you I got The Hammer and Chisel program? I did and have been doing them with pretty light weights. Chisel Balance was good-about 40 minutes and lots of small intrinsic muscles worked. That was Friday. Yesterday was The Hammer Plyometrics. It was metabolic with the Beast. Instead of pull ups I just did Burpees non stop for the time limit (30 sec.) Instead of chin ups I did mountain climbers. I liked the format of the two workouts, but don't have a chin up/pull up bar and am modifying wherever and whenever I feel like it! Today's workout is called Chisel Iso Strength and has: plie squats, push-ups, pull-ups, single leg squats, abs, one arm rows, and side step ups. You do 10 reps, hold 10 sec. for 3 times per exercise and then move on. I've already decided to just do pull overs instead of pull ups and I'm only using 10 pound weights for one arm rows. I'm determined not to hurt either shoulder again!

LL, you can take as many rest days a week as you need! How nice of you to give gifts to those kids whose parents are in prison. Our church does an Angel tree for kids and nursing home residents to give gifts.

I know Tina is riding today! its 64 degrees here so it must be nice enough there. So fortunate to have Jan Brett come to your school!

Diana, hope your trip is going well. At least on the plane ride you can read and not be on the phone!

Beth
