Cute but gross too!

I think this is very funny/cute. I have an old kitty that I adopted from the street. She has a number of health issues, including cataracts, deafness, kidney disease (we give her injections of Ringer's Lactate twice a week) and benign lumps all over her. She is very sweet and I love her to death. Now, every time I remove a lump, one of her other lumps gets bigger. Each of those lumps costs about $700 to remove and I just don't have the money right now to remove another one at this time, what with the cost of the Ringers and the special prescription food she has to be on.

After removing another one, one lump got bigger and started to leak pus (ick, I know!). Well, our dog has taken it to be her moral duty to clean that lump everytime she sees the kitty! And I mean she really goes to town on it! She does a very good job, and the kitty is doing very well and even seems to enjoy it most of the time. I understand that dog's salivas have antibacterial properties (I just heard this somewhere, so correct me if I'm wrong) so that would be helping keep the area in good shape. The dog even whimpers if the kitty doesn't want her to do it right then.

How cute is that?

Morningstar,
If you haven't talked to your vet already, you probably need to go and have that lump checked it. It sounds like an abscess rather than a benign fatty tumor. Infections for any kitty are difficult but in her condition, I would want to make sure that she was on antibiotics.

It is pretty amazing how animals will take care of each other though.

Sorry to hear about your elderly kitty. I also have a old kitty with all types of ailments. One being renal failure. :( As a matter of fact, we would have lost Wally 2 years ago if it wasn't for Astro's Oil. You might want to try it on your cat. It really has worked wonders for Wally. My friend is a vet and she has recommended it for some of her feline and canine patients and has seen some fantastic results. Here is the website www.astroscrfoil.com
Good luck.

I swear, animals are better caregivers than most people will ever be. And don't old critters touch the deepest recesses of your heart like nothing else? I really understand about the expense of chronic vet visits, I have to say. Don't feel guilty about that. Unless you're a Hilton there's only so much cash to go around.

I do agree with the others. Talk to your vet, especially to make sure your dog's saliva is okay for your cat and that your dog isn't ingesting something that could make him sick.

What wonderful pets you have.
