Curtain Placement....H E L P !!!!!

I so need some advice on this:

We just moved into a rental house and none of the windows have any treatments.
We plan on living here a year, so I didn't want to invest a bunch of money in all this window stuff just to have to move it and maybe none of it fit the next house.

Also...and this is a big ALSO...the views here are just wonderful and I hate blocking it.

I wanted to hang sheers in the formal living room but leave the top section of window squares (these windows have the squared off sections in them, don't know what that's called :+ ) uncovered and I don't really like valences...is this a big no-no?

I'd actually only like to put the sheers up the the half way part of the window where the windows separate to open, if that makes any sense, cause I want all the view and sunlight possible.

Advice please cause I don't want to be committing a design crime!!!

TIA way more than words can express!:)

I think the window you are describing with the little sectioned off windows above are a called a transom. You don't need to cover those.

I think the best treatment for your windows would be long sheers (since you want it sheer). Cafe sheers (half way up the window) will be fine, too, but that actually covers more of the window than panels on the side. With panels they can be drawn to the sides or drawn closed when needed.

I have a software program, so if you send me a picture of the window from the ceiling to floor (straight on shot if possible), I can show you both ways. PM me.

Hi! Kind of out of context here... but could you please tell me which software you use, Namita? I run a shop that specializes in window drapery and rods, and I would be very interested in a specific software instead of an interior design software, which I currently use.

Thanx!

Chris.

Chris, I use Minutes Matter (www.minutesmatterstudio.com) and there is also another one called Dream Draper (www.evanmarshdesigns.com). Both programs do the same thing.

The version of mine allows me to also do room planning.

Btw, Both have a 30 day trail version that you can download.

Are you a member of any forums geared to the drapery industry?

Namita

Namita, I'm still a putz at working my camera and getting my pics on line.

However, here is what I decided to do.

I put cafe style sheers on the windows and in the top section I don't want to cover, I hung a framed stained glass piece.
It has a really delicate flower design in it. Very pretty.

I hung each so that they hang midway in the top section of the windows in the middle. They really are lovely. So delicate.

If I can get DH to edumicate me on posting pics I'll pm you with them.

But, if you have time, can you tell me what you think of my idea????

Great, Namita, I really appreciate it!!!

I will check out both. I work both on a PC and on a Mac.

I am mainly in the wholesale curtain rod and track business with hotels, schools and theaters as the majority of my clientele. But I also get the occasional interior designer/architect who are looking for hardware solutions for their clients, so a computer designed proposal seems kind of cool! :)
Unfortunately, we do not have drapery industry-specialized forums here in Greece, so it's just a client-list build up that does the trick. That, and the word-of-mouth.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers,
Chris.

There are a variety of curtains at Wall mart for a great price. Also they have just fabric to put on as window treatments (they are also sold as a set). I have a combination of both using a double rod. They look stylish and the price was reasonable.

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

I'd say do whatever you want, and who cares if it's a designing faux pas or not! I've seen windows with curtains on the bottom half and the top half left without.

However, no matter how nice a view, I would always have some type of curtain up (and not just a sheer), to keep those outside from looking in when it's darker outside than inside. Or is this not a concern for you?

Hi Kathryn,

And thanks, I know you're right. I can do what I want, but why or why must I have that little tiny insecure voice whispering in my head, 'it looks cheap and stupid'??? Argghh...

I'm amongst new people here. DH has a new job and I will be socializing with a new group of women. They are very nice, really, but seem to be knowledgeable about design stuff, etc....which I'm not all that much. :)

I'm absolutely unable to ask for any advice from them. Maybe cause I'm older than 2 of them and it would chap me. Immature, I know, but it is what it is.

So...betcha' didn't know you'd get all this huh??
I still thank you for your 'do whatcha want' attitude. I'm most always of that mind these days so he fact that this is bugging me...is bugging me ;)

JanieJoe...I got all my curtains/sheers from Walmart.
I shopped around and they had the best prices by far...well, except for one set I found at Ross. :D
