CTX Strength Question

I was just wondering if anyone out there has used Leaner Legs and the Upper Body Split from CTX DVD as a total body workout all at once? If anyone has could you tell me how that compared to MIS.

I can't use my MIS tape right now but can use my DVDs and I wanted to do a total body strength workout so Im trying to come up with options.

One other question: Would doing Cardio Kicks in between days of MIS count as a full recovery time for the muscles? I know it really gives a nice workout to the upper body muscles so I wasn't sure if that would be a good thing to do or not.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Alison. I don't have the DVD so I can't help you there. I wanted to respond to the kickbox question. I was teaching a lot of kickboxing classes at one time and I noticed that my ability to do strength training really decreased. So my recommendation would be to not do kickboxing after really hard upper body workouts involving chest, shoulders, and tricpes. Back, biceps, and rear delts are not really worked in punches so you could do those body parts the day before. This is also true for the legs. I find that kickboxing really depletes my leg training also. Maybe I'm a wimp. I don't know. If your upper body workout was fairly moderate, kickboxing would probably be OK.

Take care, Cyndie

Once, I did all the strength sections from CTX, starting with Leaner Legs. Maybe that was my mistake...starting with LL. ;-) I felt totally wasted after that. Actually, though, by the time I got to the end, it wasn't too bad. IIRC, it took longer to do that entire routine than to do MIS.

Hi Alison! I started using the CTX tapes as Cathe wanted us to use them. I was doing one CTX tape for 6 days straight. I saw a significant difference in lowering my bodyfat after the first week! However, I didn't see any significant changes in my strength gains. But as Cathe said, it was just supposed to be used as a maintenance for strength. Since then, I've used the tapes as a split routine (i.e. doing back, biceps and abs from Power Circuit; chest, shoulders and triceps, and then leaner legs another day). I alternated one day strength training and the next day cardio. I only use MIS just for when my schedule is tight that particular week and I don't have the time to do a split routine. I lift heavy and do 3 different exercises for each body part doing 20-30 reps for each set. I've been implementing this routine now (which I'm into only the 3rd week; still have 3 more weeks to go). You can do Cardio Kicks the day after MIS but it might be a bit hard on your legs. Give it a try and see how you feel! It's all about experimenting to see what works for your body. I'm sorry but I've never done a full total body workout with these tapes because of the heaviness of the weights I use. Kathy

Hi Allison!! I've done LL with all the upper body segment from CTX. and personally, I think it's harder than MIS!! Yes, longer too, but not too much. I did stop LL before they got to the abs part, then did chest, back, shoulders, bi's and tri's, then I went back to LL and did the abs. It was tough!! I say go for it, if you can't do MIS. I'll bet you get great results!!
As for the Kickboxing question, I can't do upper body and then CK, my lats and shoulders hurts too much. I also notice my quads can't handle as much, but man, it's my upper body that feels it the most!
Hope this helps!!

Hi Allison! I just did Leaner Legs and the entire CTX upper body split a couple weeks ago after I got back from a business trip. I didn't get a decent strength workout in for a week so I felt like hitting upper and lower body really hard. It was MUCH tougher than MIS. I did LL first and then back and chest from CTX upper and later in the day finished off with shoulders, bis, and tris. I felt totally wiped out at the end of the day but it could have been partially because I hadn't had a good workout in over a week. (I did pushups and some exercises with a band in my hotel room but it wasn't the same.)

As far as Cardio Kicks, I don't have a problem doing this video the day after working my upper body but I notice that my lats always hurt the day after doing CK. I think I do the hooks and uppercuts with a little too much aggression but Cathe asks for 100% so I have to give it to her, right?;-)

Thanks so much to all of you! Your responses were really helpful for me. I never cease to be amazed at the knowledge and kindness of the people on these boards :)
