Cross Back Lunge question

Cathlete
I was wondering if there is a difference (other than core) with doing cross back lunges with the disc or without? I've noticed that since getting older, I feel like I don't have the balance like I use to and I just don't feel stable doing them on the disc. I also like without the disc I can use a heavier weight. So is there any other advantage to using the disc other than working the core also?

I feel like the disc puts a much greater emphasis on the muscles of the stationary leg because the disc stops gliding if too much weight is placed on the gliding leg. Makes it more unilateral and this definitely adds to the core/balance challenge when using the disc

Good question. It's up to you to skip it. They are two different exercises. You need your balance for both and even your core when you go heavier.

Cross back lunges put emphasis on inner tigh. That is the difference I like about it. I remember giggling first time I felt it while wondering " what is so different about this new move?".

@jldx2in2000 No:p:p you are not the only one. I feel it righ there too, fellow cathlete ☺

@firemedic

You can substitute the cross back with the Diagonal back lunge as per clip below 2:10.
You will hit your glute muscle but your inner thigh will miss out a great burn;):p

I am coming to this interesting thread/question.

@firemedic How are you doing executing this move "cross back lunge"

It is a great move. the sliding device add a challenge on the inner thigh of the gliding leg and on the glute of the stationary leg. The diagonal lunge does not offer the same inner thigh challenge.

Hope all is well with you.

I hear you on the cross back lunges. I have a lot of limitations due age, a tear in my hip and hamstring. I can‘t do that move, I sub with whatever feels good on my hip/hamstring. I always have to modify my moves. If you don‘t have the balance don‘t use the disc. I lost a lot of balance with my hip/hamstring, I work on my balance daily. I also started doing Pilates which is helping a lot. Better safe than sorry. You can modify anything. Have fun and do what feels good to you. Wish you the best.

Have you tried to regain balance? LMR and LMR2 E. or pilates?

Cross back lunge is a movement which work abductors and abductors muscles. Feel free to modify if your balance is still off. Take care.
