Crispy Cream chains ?

Hi All,

I heard last week on the radio that the UK was getting a new chain of eat-outs called Crispy Cream, from America ?
Can anyone enlighten me as to what this food chain is, please ?

Many Thanks

Anna :)

The most gawdawful doughnuts on the planet. Sweet air. Not worth the calories.

Good trading stock though. Hahah.

Uh-huh Anna. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are hard to resist. They're the best doughnuts I've ever had. Especially when they're hot. And they're very light so it's easy to eat tons of them.

Oh Dear, I will steer well clear of Krispy Kremes (and I managed to spell it wrong, well I did hear it on the radio !) LOL !

Anna :)

Yes, like tobacco, it is one of North Carolina's proud exports. I live in NC, and Krispy Kreme donuts are often used for fund raisers, brought into offices, there are little shops everywhere and they are in all the grocery stores.

As junk food goes, a hot fresh plain KK donut is good, but hardly worth the totally worthless pile of calories.

NC is one of the fattest states in the US of A, so their popularity may be related to that fact.

Stay far away from them, although you may want to try one just to see what they're like. Hopefully you can get a fresh one to maximize the experience.

Anna - Krispy Kreme's (that's how they're spelled over here I believe) are donuts that are baked using yeast, so they rise.

Actually, I do believe they serve a useful purpose. They have quite a few less calories than normal donuts - 200 calories per donut. I assume this is because they are made using yeast. Also they have 1 g fiber and 2 g protein in them (um... just don't look at the fat content :)).

The useful purpose part - if you're a donut freak, and can't help having one now and then, this is a much better choice than a normal donut, because it's not quite as bad for you.

I agree with everyone else, though, we're apparently trying to infect the world with our obesity. :) Our lives would be so much easier if we lived in a culture that prized health instead of fast food and gluttony.

Anna,

I have heard that they are fabulous! Everyone raves about them. When they first came here to Michigan the paper actually wrote articles about it! So, because of their reputation I have never had one, and they are everywhere; convenience stores, grocery stores, drive-thrus. I just know that if I ever have even one I'll cave. I honestly don't know what the big deal is about these donuts - I've had many grocery store bakery donuts that are a lot better. Ever try Fisher's, Deb H? I always get some day-old cream sticks and jelly rolls for my pig out Fridays.

If any of you live in the Wooster-Medina-New Philadelphia-Dover or Wadsworth areas of Ohio, Buehlers has the best donuts. I personally don't like plain old donuts - they have to have "stuff" in them.

Just Do It! :)

Kay,

Thanks for making me feel better. My DH has a KK near his work and he brought home a dozen.

I ate 4 and calculated I'd eaten about 1200 calories, but it looks like I ate "only" 800.

MadnNatsMom - your post cracked me up.

Anna - Krispy Kreme's are alright but IMO both Sainsbury's and Tesco's do better ones - particularly when they are fresh and warm. Oh how I miss those!

My advice--don't even drive down the block where the Krispy Kreme store is located (you can smell them from a distance, I think). Trust me--you don't want to have to compare them to . . . a carrot stick, for instance. Just say no. :)

They're definitely a cultivated mystique. When you stand in line at our newly-opened one in my neighborhood (I heard- I haven't been there yet) they give you free donuts to eat while you wait. No one is there for less than a dozen.

There are only 3 peolpe in my family and only 7 people at my office so....
Glad to hear they "only" have 200 calories each! Nobody can eat just one, I don't think (unless there are none left!)\

I have eaten some and they are good. They were not hot though. They were driven down here from the Sacramento area before our local one opened.
