Creaky Step

Hi all,

My step has become creaky for some reason. Does anyone have any ideas how to make it stop? Can I oil it with something? ANyone??? Thanks!

My step squeaks with certain risers underneath. Then they don't squeak with other risers underneath. So, maybe you can do an experiment by switching the risers. Once you find a combination of risers that are not noisy you could make a little mark on them to (sort of a note to you), so you will remember to stack those risers under the step platform. I used permanent marker & put very small little smiley faces on the side of the 2 risers that are quiet. The little smiley face is my reminder to use those!

this is great, I was going to post this too. my new step creaks without risers. I think it was in a warehouse for a very long time. my old one never made noises.

DH and I have found that our step is a lot less creaky if we place a thin towel between the step and the risers. I believe our noise issue is more related to working out on uneven carpet, so this helps level things and minimize the sound effects! Not sure if this will help any of you, but it might be worth a try.
