Crackling bones?!?

Has anyone experienced a 'popping' sensation in their lower spine while doing full sit-ups? For some reason, even if I'm on a mat, I get this 'pop' or crack (something like cracking your knuckles) when I do them. It doesn't hurt - but it's uncomfortable and sometimes makes me nervous enough to stop. Sometimes I also get this in my shoulders when doing shoulder exercises (like arm lifts or something) - but it's pretty consistent in my spine with the sit-ups.

Are full sit-ups not good for your back? Is this something that is uncommon and maybe could be a bone/joint problem? Or possibly my surrounding muscles are not strong enough to support the exercise?

I get this in my shoulder and my chiropracter said it is calcium deposits. I don't know about the lower back though, and if it could be the same thing.

I will say that since I started doing ab work on my BOSU by entire core, but especially my back and lower back, have felt much stronger. A strong back is just as important, and I know they support each other. Strong abs support the back and vise versa.

There are many people here who are more knowledgable than me, and maybe someone else will add some more to this.
