Couple questions about PS-Legs

I'm starting up a PS series rotation tomorrow, and have a couple of questions.

I haven't done the PS Legs tape in a long time. I remember feeling bored with the "warm-up sets" of lunges and plie squats (and maybe there are other warmup sets for other exercises too that I've forgotten about), feeling as if they were a waste of time. Do most of you all do the warm-up sets as Cathe suggests, using lighter weights? Or do you fast forward thru the warmup sets? or use heavy weights for them and use it as another heavy set?

Also, do most of you do the tape in its entirety, meaning you do the floor work? If so, do you feel the floor exercises are very effective for you in producing results?

Thanks for any and all opinions!
Debbie

Hi Debbie! Well, I am one of those souls who does that tapes beginning to end. I like the warmup sets with the lunges and pile' squats. And while I DON'T like the floor work, I can feel it and I know it's working, so I keep on truckin' through it!! Ok, that's what I do! I'm interested in hearing what the others have to say:)!

I also do it from beginning to end including the floor work which I can feel working big time. The only modifications are during the warmup plie squats. I don't have a bodybar so I just use light weights. Also, the side to side thing with those squats is a little fast for me and my living room is not wide enough so I just do them the regular way, up and down. Otherwise, I feel EVERY exercise and love the results!

Whole thing

I do the whole thing also. I like the warm-up sets, but I don't have a bodybar, so I use my second barbell which is loaded much lighter than my first. I do the floorwork and feel it when I am doing it - especially that hamstring work - but I never feel it after I am done with the workout. I very rarely get sore, though.
Good luck with your PS rotation!

I do the warm-up sets 'cause I figure Cathe put them in there for a reason, and I WANT MY LEGS TO LOOK LIKE HERS!!!! If that's what it takes, I'll do it!!!!!

Ditto on everything Kelly said

I do not like doing the warm up sets but I do them anyway. I especially do not like doing the side by side plies on carpet so I do them up and down with dumb bells.

I am learning to enjoy (well, maybe just like)the floorwork. Not too many tapes have floorwork anymore, so it's a nice change and still gets me sore. And lying on the floor can't be too bad after all that standing work.:)

I've often wondered about the warm up sets on the other PS tapes too. For instance the chest press ones, because we've already done pushups. That's enough warm up for me... but I do them in spite of that. Must be a good reason that they're in there--right?

I do them too

I like the warm up sets, especially further into the video. They give me a chance to recover from the other work I've been doing! :)

I can truly say that I KNOW the floor work has benefits you don't get from standing leg work. I did just the standing portion last week, due to lack of time, and wasn't at all sore the next day. Yesterday I did it all, and not only did I feel when I was working, I STILL feel it! My inner thighs and tush are definitely talking to me quite sternly this AM. :D Like Cathe says at one point, "Well, maybe it doesn't feel GOOD, but it feels like it's working!" :-rollen

Have a great day!

I skip them!

Debbie,

I skip the first warm-up set of dumbbell lunges and I only do some of the warm-up plie squats as well. I also hold 7lb dumbbells up in front of my chin (palms-up) instead of using a body bar for better balance.

I think this gives me more energy to do the remaining sets with heavier weights. Seems to me if you added up all the lunges and squats (of various types -- plie, sit&stands, regular) you'd have a pretty high number -- perhaps over a hundred reps.

So my body tones up nicely by skipping the warm-up sets -- they fatigue me too much so I can't lift my heaviest with good form on the remaining sets.

Just my 0.02 cents!

RE: I skip them!

Interesting, Dawn. I may just try it that way next time. Thanks for your input and now you've got me thinking.

MY LEGS ARE SORE!!!!

Thanks all for your replies & opinions. I started my new PS rotation and did SLA yesterday, in its entirety. It was fun to do the workout beginning to end, light warmup sets, floor work, abs, the works. And YOW, am I sore this morning!!! Actually the sore and stiff feeling set in late afternoon yesterday (I did the workout at 6am yesterday). Feels great!
Have a great day! :)

This is what I'm going to try...

.....Leaner Legs up to before the calf raises, stop & put in PS Legs when they start the floor work (inner and outer thighs) and finish that tape through the ab work.

Then I'll try to walk........!!!!!!!

Does anyone else use an ankle weight for the floor work? I don't have a body bar so I use a 9 lb ankle weight and boy I always feel it! I use 2 8lb dumbbells for the warm up plie squats. I like the warm up sets because I feel like they prepare my muscles for the heavy stuff to come.

Hi Lorrie

I don't have a bodybar either so I used a 5lb ankle weight along with a 12 lb dumbbell on the thigh. I am reallllly feeling this work today, because I haven't done floor work in months and months and months (can't remember the last time, I've always been a chronic floorwork-skimper). But with this new rotation I've made a vow to do the floor work and abs without skipping. So, since I hadn't done floor work in so long, I probably should have lightened up a bit!!! My leg muscles are really tight and sore to the extreme.

I used to either skip the warmup sets completely, or else do 'em all heavy. This time, I did the warmup sets light (5 lb dumbbells for the lunges, 2 8-lb ones like you did for the plies). I really appreciated having those warmup sets as a break from heavy weight sets, and as a "breather" before the heavy work to come. I don't know how I used to survive that tape without doing those lighter sets! I also used to use my heavy barbell for EVERY exercise. I was always trying to act amazon-esque for some unknown reason!!! Hmmmm...could this be why I never could stick with my planned rotations in the past?--cuz I was making my workouts tooo hard for myself??? This time, I used my barbell when Cathe used a barbell, and my dumbbells when Cathe used dumbbells. It was much more enjoyable and well-balanced this way. I guess the moral of my story is that I should let Cathe do the thinking for me, instead of trying to re-think the videos and doing them MY way in an attempt to get More out of them. My way seems to usually be taking on too much, too soon, and wipes me out TOO FAST!!!:-tired

I'm really looking forward to this PS rotation!!!

Debbie :)

LAST EDITED ON Feb-04-01 AT 09:24PM (Est)[p]Hi Debbie!

17 lbs total on your leg for the floorwork - WHEW - you are an amazon :-jumpy I love the PS series and I'm glad you're enjoying it this time around. I especially love CST. I started my "endurance" rotation today and did BodyMax earlier - what a long tape - but it's fun! Have a great workout week but don't overdo it ;-) !
