Hi all--well, I found out about a week ago I am pregnant. We have little girl who will be three in Feb. We were planning on trying in the Spring--but this is great!

I've read some of the posts on here written by the other moms-to-be and I have a question. Last week I had my bloodwork done and they called back the next day to say that everything looked absolutely wonderful. My progesterone was 32 and I will have my first ultrasound in 2 weeks (but I'm still nervous). I worried over every little ache and pain with my first pregnancy and I am finding myself worrying with this one. Is good/high progesterone an indication that the chances of carrying a baby to term are higher? I've always wondered that. If anyone knows the answer to this, please let me know. It would help to ease my nerves and fears. I think sometimes I borrow trouble WAY too much.

Thanks!!!
Jessi:)

Congratualtions!!! I am pregnant with our second also. We ahd our second u/s today and saw what I think looks like a shrimp and the heartbeat!!! Anyhoo, enough about me. :)

Lets talk progesterone. Progesterone is the hormone of pregnancy... it is the hormone that plays the greatest role in maintaining pregnancy. Many doctors will say that 10ng/ml of circulating progesterone per day are necessary for pregnancy. Levels greater than 10 have a better chance of a good pregnancy outcome. NOTE: As with many subjects in medicine, the numbers doctors use vary. Please also note that these levels vary from woman to woman... pregnancy to pregnancy. This is one of the hormones the doctor is monitoring with my current pregnancy... if it begins to decrease the doctor would start me on progesterone... that is how vital it is to pregnancy. Don't panic... I am high risk, so if you are not high-risk...your doctor will probably not be following your levels.

Here is a link that gives reference ranges for progesterone:

Hi Autumn,

Congratulations on your pregnancy and a successful 1st ultrasound!! That is wonderful :)

Thank you for the reply. It made sense and did make me feel better. The link you provided was also helpful. Now it is just a waiting game until the first ultrasound (2 weeks away). I'm trying to keep my mind on other things, but it SO hard to do.

Oh well!! With the holdiays this week and chasing after a two year old, that should keep me pretty busy!!
:)

I'll keep you posted and you do the same!!
Jessi:) :)

Congrats on your news. Welcome to the forum.
