Could I be pregnant?

DH and I have been trying to get pregnant. I've been off my birth control pill since the end of July. Ever since then my periods have been regular, about 28 or 29 days. According to my calculations I should have started my TOTM this past Friday but never did. On Saturday I decided to take a pregnancy test and it showed I was not. However yesterday I decided to try the test again, because I am impatient, and it still shows that I am not pregnant. Is it possible that the pregnancy hormone level has not increased enough to register on the pregnancy test. I am probably just jumping the gun. Thanks for an answers you may have.

Hi,

What pregnancy test are you using? Different brands are sensitive to different levels of the HCG hormone. Generally speaking, any of the generic or store brands (Walmart, etc) require 100iu of HCG to be in the urine before it will register, while Early Response requires only 25iu. Clear Blue requires 50iu. If you haven't tried the Early Response test, then I recommend you give it a go. If that's what you're already using, then I can't answer your question. I really hope you're pregnant!! I found out on Friday that I am pregnant, so we would be due around the same time.

Good luck!
Sandra

I would suggest waiting at least 7 if not 10 days after your expected TOTM. I did the same thing you did, test too early and waste money on Pregnancy tests. After the 7th day I tested for the third time, and it was positive. Good luck!

Thank you Sandra and LindaO! I'm not even sure what the name of the pregnancy tests were, probably some generic brand. I remember the first time I was pregnant I had a negative pregnancy test and then 2 days later it was positive. Hopefully when I test again, probably this coming Friday if I have not started my TOTM, it will be a positive. That would mean for sure that I would have conceived on Christmas day, like you Sandra. I was "loosely" following the same book as you, TCOYF, that month. I say loosely because it was hard to track on some days due to being out of town for the holidays. I'll keep my fingers crossed though. My MIL is coming into town Friday, that would be a great surprise for her. She is so anxious for another grandbaby. Thanks again for your responses!!

I had this problem back in May. I took 10 home pregnancy test, all coming up negative, but when I finally got to the doctor one came up positive. But it was to late. The reason why I had so many negatives was because my HCG level (the hormone that makes a positive test) was so low that it wouldn't register. Since I didn't know I was, I didn't take medication to up my hormone level, which caused me to miscarry. So if you think you are and your test are coming up negative, GO TO THE OBGYN!!! If you are not pregnant, they can also start your period for you.
Good luck though! We are still trying, after 2 miscarriages in a row it really sucks! I want to be excited, but I also don't want my hopes up.

I am sorry if this scares you, but I wish someone would of told me too!! I would have stopped taking home test and rushed to the OBGYN if I new different. Also taking one every day wont help either. Your HCG levels increase every 48 hours, so if you had one negative lets say on Monday, it will read the same on Tuesday but could change by Wednesday. So every other day is the way to go.

GOOD LUCK!!!
