Couch to 5K + GWF, Anyone?

Has anyone who has done the Couch to 5k program figured out their calorie consumption for each session? I know it's pretty individualized, but I would love a general idea as to how many calories are being burned, especially in the beginning. I know a lot of you use the GWF :)p I'm still waiting for the Amazon price drop again as I missed it last time!), and if you have numbers from that or from any other device, it would be helpful!

My cardio routine needs a boost, as my weight loss is at a plateau right now and I was considering the Cto5k program, but am nervous about not burning enough calories!

So, any input would be great from those of you who've done it! Since it's a 3 day per week program, I was going to do that on my regular step days and keep my circuit workouts on Tues & Thurs, which incorporate both cardio and weights.

I look forward to seeing what the range is!

Thanks!

Tricia: I know this is not what you were asking for- hope you don't mind a little unsolicited advice. I was doing last year what you are now- 3 days of cardio and 2-3 days of circuits. My weight loss was stalled out. Once I stopped doing so much cardio, things really started moving again. It seems counter intuitive, but I started doing strength workouts instead of circuits and it was such a nice change. PLUS, my weight started moving down again.

Oh and I do have a GWF and am planning on running 3 miles this week- I'm running a 5K in a month and I just want to make sure I can do it. Anyway, I'll post my calorie burn for you.

Hi Patti!

Thanks for the info! I appreciate ANY advice. I have always been a cardio fanatic and am so scared of dropping that down and picking up my weight workouts! It sounds like that's what's working for most of the people here, but you're right, it's counter intuitive and very frightening to me! Of course, most everyone is dong STS and I don't have that right now. It's on my list, but as pricey as it is, it's having to wait a little while!

I look forward to your update! And, thanks for the advice. I will have to work my way up to it, but I'll give it a go!

Good luck on your 5k, too!

Tricia

I ran 7 miles this morning while wearing my GWF. I burned 12 calories a minute on average. Hope that helps!

Tricia: I was (still am sorta) a cardio addict and was terrified of gaining weight if I didn't do it at least 5 days a week. The only way I would weight train was if I could also do cardio- therefore, my circuit solution. I remember one day I decided to just try it. I did Muscle Endurance and LOVED it! Now I am deep into STS and before that I was even doing splits and some great rotations that Debbie created. Cathe has great rotations too. I promise you won't gain weight- just do it for two weeks and see what you think. Maybe try a rotation to give you a little guidance? If you need help finding one, let me know. :)

Yes it does! It gives me my high end! I hope this running thing works! I have noticed significant CV improvement over the last couple of months, but I don't know if it'll be enough! I'll be taking it really slowly!

I so appreciate all of your help and info!:D

Patti:

I don't really have any straight weight training dvds. Any suggestions? I was looking at 4 Day Split and Cross Train Xpress. Do you recommend anything different that might be better?

Tricia: If you just want to try one out, my advice is to get Boot Camp / Muscle Endurance. It has a great circuit workout on it (BC) and a great ME/BC circuit premix. Plus, you have a full body weights workout in ME that you can also split into upper / lower body if you like. You can also use BC that way and just do the weight work. It's very versatile and you can't go wrong with it. The ab work in BC is some of my favorite. HTH!

Thanks Patti! I'll check that one out! I'm starting my first day of Couch to 5k tomorrow. Wish me luck!

BTW, I wasn't going to get on the scale today. I never do it over the weekend! I tried, I really did try to NOT weigh in today, but I did (yes, I'm weak) and I dropped 1 pound! So, I lost the .6 that I had gained, plus and extra .4! Down to exactly 135! 10 more to go!!!:D

the only way to know is

An HRM. Without a heart rate monitor, you won't know because it varies widely from one person to the next.
