cottage cheese

OK so I made myself buy some since I need more protein in my diet. I bought the no salt added version because the saltiness is what made me want to wretch with the other ones. It's ok, but my question is what do you all add to cottage cheese to make it tastier? It definitely needs something.

Any fruit. Or some cocoa powder and a bit of sweetner of choice. Yum! Chopped up cucumbers or red pepper is also good. Any of the sweeter veggies. Or put it on salad in place of dressing. Cinnamon or any sweet spice, with or without sweetner. Chopped apple and cinnamon. YUM!

Hi -

Try using cottage cheese sometimes in savory applications. One of my favorite healthy meals is to get a bowl of cooked spaghetti squash, and add about 1/2 cup of cottage cheese into that and throw it back in the microwave so that the cottage cheese melts in it and gets gooey. I will also add spaghetti sauce to that and maybe some real parmesan cheese to add for more flavor.
I will sometimes mix grated asiago or parmesan w/ cottage cheese and spread on bread and then broil it. Put a sliced tomato and fresh basil and its pretty good too.

Lastly, its not bad if you mix it into cooked oatmeal either.. I wouldn't go more than about 1/4 cup per oatmeal serving at first... it can overpower the oats if you use too much.

Take care, Lynn

Fresh strawberries, blueberries, cinnamon, splenda, and couple tablespoons of fat free cool whip.

Sooo good.

Lynn: Your idea sounds amazing- going to try that.

Put in a blender: 1/2 cup each- dry oats (old fashioned), egg whites and cottage cheese. Add some cinnamon and vanilla and blend for 20-30 seconds. Spray pan with Pam and add the mix- cook on medium / medium low until bubbles are on the top then flip- makes the best protein pancakes on earth.

Yum, my favorite use of cottage cheese is the savory variety, as well. I top my whole-grain spaghetti and marinara with cottage cheese all the time. I'll also mix it with herbs and garlic to make a sort of pesto dip for whole wheat crackers.

You can also use it to stuff poblano peppers and then broil.

I like it plain with a little pepper (some of my family put salt on it and that just too much for me :))

I also like to put in on a baked potato instead of sour cream. Sprinkle some chives on the cottage cheese and you have dinner ...

oh, yeah - yummy. It is also great on yam/sweet potato. (I like fresh ground pepper too, especially with tomato)

This was a very timely thread for me, as I have become determined that I WILL like cottage cheese. Somehow. I'm going to try it with blueberries and chocolate protein powder tomorrow. I will also be trying it with almonds and rolled oats and blackberries at some point.

Oh my gosh, I can eat cottage cheese plain right out of the tub! I love, love, love the stuff--I could eat it all day. I add nothing to mine. I just open up the lid and go to town.

I've never been a fan of mixing fruit or something sweet to it. I prefer it as a side with a veggie burger and salad. It's the best stuff ever!

I second with black pepper, yum.
