Just got contacts yesterday, first time ever, been wearing reading glasses for 4 yrs now I believe.... anyone else wear contacts?
Its taking a little bit to get used to putting something in my eyes lol... Rhonda

Congrats on getting stick-on peepers, Rhonda!

I've been wearing contacts for 2 years (wore glasses for 16 years before that). It definitely takes some getting used to. But give it a couple weeks and you won't even know they are there.

The biggest problem I have is drying out. Any time a blast of air comes my way, my contacts get really dry and I have to blink a lot or they try to pop out and escape! So you may want to keep some contact friendly eye drops around.

Also, if your contacts are not specifically recommended for sleeping in, don't sleep in them! It's not fun in the morning.

Lastly, you can get tiger striped ones for Halloween. You know, just in case you're interested.

I've been a contact lens wearer for 20 years. So far, my favorite lenses are the Day/Night lenses that you wear for 30 days. I even sleep in them. I only take them out once or twice in those 30 days when my allergies are bad and they need to be cleaned. Otherwise, I forget about them. They're extremely comfortable and I don't have the problem with dry eyes like I used to have when I wore the weekly disposables.

I've been wearing contact lenses for 23 years now. Presently I'm wearing the dailies...put in a fresh pair each morning and throw them away each nite...love them!

My eyes only get dry when I hit the malls...the air is so dry in those places.

I've been a contact lens wearer for about 13 years and I would definitely recommend getting the type that you replace every 2 months (I used to have the kind that you replaced once a year, and after losing 2 pairs in under 6 months, I was pretty broke!). I currently use Focus Monthly and I honestly don't know what I would do if I had to wear glasses every day (I think I actually wear my glasses 1-2 x every few weeks or so).

I wore contacts and glasses since I was a teenager. Contacts off and on. I had to wear toric lenses because of astigmatism. I had LASIK surgery in June of 2004 and have never regretted it. Didn't have one problem. I have 20/20 vision now without correction.

I've had contacts maybe 8 years or so. I used to have the monthlies, then I went to a new doctor and she recommended dailies.

I love the dailies. They're way more expensive, but you don't buy any solution and don't have to worry about anything while you're wearing them.

I think it took me about 3 months to get used to the poking myself in the eye...but now it's like some great talent or something. I love that it grosses my DH out. I can impress him if only that way...

If you find your eyes are getting irritated, like with allergies or pollen in the air, you can call your doctor and ask for a prescription eye drop called "Patenol". I used that for a while and that really helped with the dry/irritated eyes. I also find my contacts bother me when I'm in air conditioning all day sometimes.

I also wear glasses (I think since 8th grade, and I'm 28 now, so I can't do the math to figure how many years...) and I don't mind them either. I usually buy a 9 month supply of contacts to last me the year. Contacts make my runs much easier, too!

Sorry for the long post. I guess I have a lot of random knowledge about contacts!!

I have had wore contacts and glasses for as long as I can remember. I remember when I first got contacts I had this little oven I had to bake them in overnight!! Then of course the enzyme capsules, man they are much easier and feel better nowadays. I got laser eye surgery 2 years ago and that is the best invention I can think of besides Cathe's PUB!!:7

I've been wearing contacts for 40+ years, so I have worn every kind from big hard ones to my current "plastic wrap" monthlies. Word of caution on the extended wear contacts - they can numb your eye, so if you get any kind of irritation on your cornea, you won't feel it. I would encourage all to stick with removing contacts every night - voice of experience.

Me too apester. I think I've been wearing them for at least 25 yrs. I wear a pair for 2 weeks and toss em. Works pretty good. Sometimes they get dry from wind certain air. I am as blind as a bat. I should get Lasik but am afraid regressing back because my eyes are so bad.
I'm thinking of getting a new pair of glasses that I wouldn't mind wearing sometimes to give my eyes a break. Have to save up tho. They're so expensive!

Well since this is my first with contacts... the doc put me on a trial kit to see how I do with them, so far so good.... its called Opti-Free Express by Alcon...

I go back in 2 weeks and he will order what I need.... Rhonda

You may want to see if your doctor will put you in Night&Days, if your still having trouble with dryness. These you can wear up to 30 days straight, bacially only take out when you get something in your eye or they get dirty. They are really really moist, and allow a lot of oxygen, so it really cuts down on eye drops. This was the main reason I got Night&Days about a year a go. I have super dry eyes from s'jgrens disease, it attacks my tear ducks and doesn't allow them to produce tears. My doctor told me, I'd probably never get to wear them the 30 days as it says you can, but being able to cut down to put eye drops in my eyes to about 4 times a day I really don't care about not wearing them for 30 days. Standard contacts made it so I was putting eye drops in every hour on the hour, and if I was reading about every 20 minutes. Very annoying.

I have to wear contacts as I don't get the right vision with glasses, so this find was a real break for me. I'd really recommend them not for the 30 days, never tried that, but I do end up wearing then for about 2 weeks straight, no taking them out at all. Then poping them out and do a super cleaning on them, then putting them back in for the rest of the 30 day wear. It is wonderful to get up at night and be able to see the clock, or get up and grab a medicine bottle and be able to read it, half a sleep. And no they don't usually get dry, while your sleeping. Once in the while they do for me, but it's usually when I'm in a flare and I think my tear ducks are producing 0 moisture, as my mouth and nose as x-tra dry at that time too. Most days, I wake up do my normal thing, and don't think twice about my contacts in my eyes. And after wearing them for 8 months, they actually have made it so my eyes want them, my eyes feel so much drier without my contacts that I'm constantly putting eye drops in my eyes until that 4 hour period is up, and I can stick my contacts back in from their super cleaning.

I've worn contacts for ... oh my, about 25 years. I have to wear the rigid gas-permeable kind, due to astigmatism. They're not as comfortable as the soft lenses, and I tend to get lots of stuff in my eyes that usually hurts like crazy. But after 25 years, I guess I'm used to it.

I don't know if I could get the soft lenses out, the way you have to actually reach in there and grab them. I literally pop mine out - just pull the corner of the eye back, blink, and out they come.

Hard or soft, I think contacts are MUCH better than glasses any day!

I wore contacts for almost 10 years and then I got LASIK done in 1999. It's wonderful! I almost can't remember what it was like to have contacts now...

Oh I just love my contacts. I use Accuview 2 week except for me it's more like Accuview 2 month (sorry but I'm a skeptic, I really think if you keep them clean you don't have to throw them out every two weeks--IMO it's just a way for the company to make more money off you).

I DO NOT EVER sleep in them though. I had this awful experience once when it rolled up behind my eyelid & it was sheer he!! getting it out.

I have the day/night ones and I sleep in mine. I have had them for years and years. Would love to have the surgery done. Maybe I should look into it some day. :)

Its getting easier each day to put them in, day, this is day 4...and I have alot of problems with trying to pinch them out, the suction is really strong, I have to pull them down to the bottom of my eye and slide them out that way....
I do think I would like the night/day contacts, we stay up late and I would love not having to put them in on weekend mornings to look at my cell phone to see what time it is.....
I am also of course getting used to putting drops in my eyes, that is getting easier too lol.......

Rhonda

I've looked into it, but I've also heard that after 10 years or so your eyes go bad again--it's just a natural aging process. The contacts feel so natural now I figure I'll spend my money on other things. Like shoes. :)
