Connie - Striving for Health: upping the calories?

Joni

Cathlete
Hey Connie,

Just wondering if you're still experimenting with your calories? I've gained 8 pounds since upping mine (from 1300-1800) over the past 2 months, so I think it's time to go back to simply eating clean and listening to my body.

How's it working for you? (Hope better than for me!)

Joni

Hi Joni!

Yes, I'm still working on increasing my calories. I've added in an average of 200 calories a day- bringing me up to 1800-1900 a day. However, I've been focusing more on re-organizing my macronutrients. I went from 50-52% carbs to 45-47% carbs; 20-22% to 28-30% protein; and 30-32% to 25-27% fat. So far so good. I've lost about 3 pounds since starting this, and I'm quite happy with that. I'm happier with how I feel and the increased stamina I have during my Cathe workouts. :)

I'm sorry to hear that your experiment didn't work out as well. I agree, go back to what you were doing. You gave it a fair shot, but it just isn't right for you. That tells me that you were doing pretty darn good to begin with- and that's something to be proud of. ;)

Connie :D

I'm SO glad to hear it's working for you. And, I'm glad I gave it a shot. I've been methodically eliminating each barrier to my weight loss, and now I know that "starvation" isn't the problem.

But - I am going to try and keep my metabolism fired up by not eating too few calories every single day. I think the "one free day" (in moderation) will work and I'm going to keep an eye on my macros too so that I don't overdo the carbs and make sure to get enough protein.

Keep on striving :)

Joni

Thanks, Joni! I give you alot of credit for working on the elimination process- that can be very frustrating. I know from experience, dude. LOL ;)

Good luck with your new approach- it sounds like a smart and well-balanced one. :)

I'll keep on strivin' if you will.

Connie :D

PS Have you ever been to The Flying Biscuit in Atlanta? I know you live around there....I wanted to go while I was there the other weekend but never made into the "real city". I was just wondering if I missed something really good or not. :9

OOooohhhh.... that used to be my FAVORITE restaurant in Atlanta. I hardly ever go out to eat anymore because of the calorie factor - (yeah, kinda silly), but those biscuits DO fly!! Yummy. Actually, they have a relatively healthy menu - if you skip the 6 inch chocolate cookie for dessert! I haven't been in years...YUM.

How was 6 Flags? Haven't been there in years either....

Arg! I was afraid it was THAT good and I missed out. Darn it!! x( :-( Oh well...guess I have a good reason to go back sometime. ;)

6 Flags was incredibly wonderful! We didn't wait in a single line more than 30 minutes, the weather was perfect, and we really enjoyed all the rides- especially the new Superman. I took my sister to Dave & Busters and had fun there, too. She'd never been to one, the poor thing. Thanks for asking! :)
