Combining PS and Pyraminds?

Hey Cathe and the educated crowd!

I was thinking of doing a rotation that combined the PS series (each tape once per week) and also the pyramid series (each tape once per week). My question is, is this too much weight lifting? I will also try to do cardio 3-4 times per week. My goals are fat loss and increasing my strength/definition. Has anyone tried this combination? Any comments? TIA!

Hi Thea, I don't think it's too much if you're not a beginner. Typically, I work out 5-6 times a week for about 2-3 hours each session, combining upper body OR lower body strength training, 30-60 minutes of cardio (depending on how I feel) on a low step, and 2-3 of Cathe's ab routines. When I started out, my workouts weren't as long or as intense as this. I worked my way to where I am very slowly. Also, I make sure to do lower or upper body work every three days. So I strength train my upper body on Mondays and Thursdays, my lower body on Tuesdays and Fridays. Lots of cardio and ab work throughout. I rotate my strength workouts among PS, Power Hour, MIS, S&H and Pyramids, just for variety. I do love PS and Pyramids best. I know people who do entire body strength training every other day, but they've been working out forever and seem to not need as much rest as I do. Go ahead and try your idea and see how you feel afterwards. Experiment with different weights. On my blah days I use lower weights and shorten my sessions. Some workouts I've actually skipped and napped instead!:) I've been doing very well with my Cathe DVD's despite the slips from clean eating and the occasional laziness. Hope this helps. Good luck with your program. I'd be interested to see how it works out for you.

Hi Thea, I agree with Pinky. How about doing the PS and for the Pyramid series do a total body workout if you have the dvd, if not I like the ME but of course that is endurance type lifting if that is what you want. That is just my thought. Im sure you'll get good advice.

I did an all strength rotation using those as follows:
Ps BBA
PS-SLA
PS-CST
PS-SLA
PUB
PLB
I only added a daily walk(2 miles) to this as I was taking a break from cardio at that time. But I had no weight or fat gain, and I did see much more strength improvements (especially legs-really better tone and appearance as well as stronger) than when I just did 3 days a week of weights. Adding cardio would really add some good fat burning if you are an advanced enough exerciser to tolerate that long of a workout. When I returned to doing cardio I found the "all weights" rotation had dramatically improved my cardio endurance for longer steady state workouts without becoming as fatigued. I credit this to the increased leg strength.

Thanks to all who replied! Unfortunately, I do not have any of these on DVD (but they're on my Christmas list!). I am not a beginner, however I have been on a 2 week hiatus due to a nasty chest cold. It's so frustrating to want to work out but you feel too rotten to do it! I have managed to lift some weights this week, but cardio just makes me cough! Anyway, I had planned on doing the weights in the morning before work, then doing cardio when I get home 3-4 times per week. If it is too much, maybe I will do PS and then ME once. I have about 15-20# to lose, have been stuck at one weight for quite a while. I think a large part of it is my diet which definitely needs to be cleaned up. I find these forums so helpful! I am kind of a lurker, but hope to post more. Thank you so much for all of your great advice and suggestions. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again, Thea

Check out the Rotations Section of this forum. Look for the One Body Part Per Day Rotation. PS & Pyramids are combined daily to super work one body part plus cardio.

I had great results doing this for 4 weeks.

I did this because I didn't have CTX series and wanted to work each body part hard once per week, and get in adequate cardio sessions.

Thanks! I checked out the one body part per day rotation and it looks great. I may try that too. I need to think it all over and see what fits with my schedule! I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks again, Thea
