My husband and I have a debate going on, I should say...yet, another debate. Anyway, The question is, if you feel something coming on, cold, flu, ect......do you push yourself, or save your energy in an attempt to fight what's coming? Anyone with any insight? :D

Rest!
Your body needs its energy to fight off whatever is coming on, and your immune system doesn't need the extra stress of working out. A gentle workout, like stretching or yoga, might be o.k., but if you push yourself to "work through" the illness, in most cases, it will last longer than if you had given your body the time it needs to heal.

OH NO....one of you ACTUALLY thinks you can sweat it out, right? Uh-Uh. Sorry. Only rest will keep you from getting lots sicker. If you are already in good shape from working out regularly, now that will help your immune system....

So, who loses? I hope it is hubby.:)

Rest.

You might also want to try Airborne. It's an orange seltzer tablet full of immunze-boosting vitamins that was created by a school teacher who was tired of getting sick. You just drop it in a small amount of water, water a minute or so, and drink it. It's yummy and full of vitamin C, echinacea, zinc, etc...

When you're just coming down with something you really don't know what it is or what it could become. It's best to rest. :)

Lay on the couch and watch FitTV!

OMG! Can I totally relate to this post! Just last month my husband was coming down with something. "I'll just sweat it out with a good bike ride" he says. I tell him to rest. But does he listen to me? NO! Within a week he is at the doctor because he is coughing so much and is just exhausted all the time (I made him go). Guess what? He had developed pneumonia! He even told the doctor he tried to "sweat it out." Needless to say he got a pretty good tongue lashing from the doctor that that's not the way to better an ailing body.

Sorry for the long story...but I just felt I had to say it.

REST!!!! Take care of yourself.

Wish I'd read this post a week ago. I made myself work out last Monday even though I was feeling extremely puny. I have been out of commision ever since with the worst cold I've had in years. I never knew a person's body could produce that much snot. (Sorry to be gross) I haven't worked out all week due to shear misery. Felt better today. Did some serious housework to get caught up, and will attempt a gentle workout tomorrow. I am definately going to try that airborne stuff next time I feel something like this coming on. Anything to ward off this misery. My poor nose has lost several layers of skin. If personal experience counts for anything, I vote for rest!!!

I had the same issue 2 weeks ago and I listened to my body and rested. I never got sick--just felt "puny" (love that:D ) for 2 days and it went away. I didn't want to take 2 rest days in a week, but figured I would be taking a lot more than that if I got sick.

Happy New Year!

Absolutely Rest!!!! I know the feeling of wanting to workout but I have learned from experience that my body doesn't react well after a workout when I am on the verge of illness. REST!!!
