Coffee & Fat Gain

I think I've read that coffee may help with fat loss. I actually seem to have the opposite experience.

I was able to stop drinking coffee for about a year (this was about three years ago). When I started again, I noticed that my fat level seemed to increase.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? (I'm trying to get motivated to stop drinking it!)

Thanks
Becky

I read your post and the only one question came to mind: Do you put sugar and cream in your coffee? Black coffee has no calories.

Just my .02!

caffine might have something to do with water retention... ?
it gets blamed for alot of things..

i have seen it written caffine contributes to cellulite...(I dont know if thats good info or not)

what if you quit for two weeks?

other variables in your life to consider:

how old are you?
any recent pregnancies?

how much weight have you put on?

how much are you working out? on your feet more or less than in the past?

job changes? other significant life or health changes?

any medications in your life...?

hormonal changes? birth control ...?

is something sneaking in your diet?

does coffee speed your metabolism? get you moving?

ALSO
nutrasweet/equal has some bad press.
one of the things that i read about it is that it effects your insulin in some way that can make fat......therefore it can be bad news for some dieters ......
then, there are other complaints... i read 75% of complaints to the food and drug admin have to do with nutrasweet

you will have to look up the critism of nutrasweet....or post a question titled "nutrasweet? bad or good.??""

i am sure you will get some info if you post the question...
you might even find plenty if you do a search on this forum on the topic... what is the generic name for the stuff? (i cant remember it at the moment...)

ever hear of Stevia....? a very intense sweetner that actually is good for you.....

I think it's probably the caffeine, not the coffee, that contributes to weight loss in some. In other words, almost all the diet and thermogenic products have caffeine in them, but not caffeine derived from coffee. It makes your heart rate elevate, so you burn more calories.

Caffeine actually is a stimulant. One of its effects is that it stimulates fat cells to release fatty acids into the bloodstream to be utilized for energy. Don't go crazy though and think that drinking coffee is great before a workout. It is very dehydrating and can cause irregular heart beats. This is not what you want.

I think that drinking coffee is just a coincidence to weight gain and that there was probably other factors involved. Like Cinza said what else is going on in your life?

Best wishes, Cyndie
