"Clean" Desserts?

dr.mel_PT

Cathlete
Hey guys! I'm trying REALLY hard to lose these stubborn last 10 pounds and I've decided that eating clean might be the ticket. Problem is, I have a huge sweet tooth so I need that extra OOMPH after dinner, lol. I'd like to avoid sugar at all costs since this seems to be my trigger food. Any ideas?!

My favorite treat is a chopped granny smith apple with vanilla low fat yogurt and sprinkle of chopped walnuts sometimes dried cranberries.
I love sweet and sour desserts. If you want less sour, go for a less tart apple.

For a chocolate fix....1-2 squares of dark organic chocolate melted over a bowl of fresh strawberries.

One more favorite!

Protein pancakes...1/2 cup oats 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 3 egg whites blend until smooth. Grill. Makes about 3 pancakes.
I then take strawberries and zap them in the microwave for 1 minute. Smash until pourable. Pour warm strawberries over pancakes. OMG, these taste so sinful! It's really a breakfast, but tastes like a dessert. I use it when I need a sweet fix:)

Natural nut butters (peanut, almond, cashew) work for me in getting rid of the sweet tooth...on a spoon, straight from the jar. I'm also not terribly concerned about fat intake though, so your mileage may vary.

I've not tried this , but plan to.

Pudding made with skim milk and FF/SF Pudding Mix. And adding extract flavors.

For instance:

Peppermint Extract or Coconut, or Orange Extract to Chocolate Pudding

You could even sprinkle a little graham cracker broken up on top!

Another idea is sprinkling a little bit of Brown Sugar on a Grapefruit and putting it under the broiler.

or I've done these, they are SOOO good:

Hershey Bar Haystacks

(1 Stack - 71 calories, 4g fat, 12 carbs, 5g fiber, 2g protein - 1 WW point)

1 Cup Fiber One Cereal
1 (1.5 oz.) Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar
1 Tbsp. reduced fat peanut butter, smooth or chunky

Directions:
Melt bar and peanut butter in microwave until smooth, at 30-second intervals. Be careful not to burn or overcook. Stir chocolate and peanut butter mixture. Add cereal and gently toss till coated. Drop onto wax paper, making 6 stacks. Refrigerate until chocolate hardens (about 30 minutes). Serves 6.

And then if you like Pumpkin (Sooo good, from Hungry Girls Cookbook), tastes JUST like the inside of a pumpkin pie!!:

Wayne's Pumpkin Smash
Per Serving: 1 Piece: 65 calories, <0.5g Fat, 81mg Sodium, 12g carbs, 1g fiber, 5g Protein

Ingredients:
One 15-oz. Can Pure pumpkin
One 12-oz. can evaporated fat free milk
1/2C Fat free liquid egg substitute
3/4 C splenda (granulated) (I buy the Walmart brand, cheaper!!)
2 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all ingredients. Mix well.
Place mixture in a baking dish and bake in the oven for 45 minutes.

Once ready to serve (it's delicious eaten hot or cold), cut into 9 pieces.

Ohh I dont know how clean this is or not....but I love having this for lunch and it seems like such a treat:

1 Cup unsweetened Almond Milk
1 Banana
4-5 Strawberries
1 Packet Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
Ice cubes

Blend it all together and you get a sweeeet deeelish shake!

I also like the soy protein powder with almond milk and a banana...so good!

Sometimes I get creative and try out "clean" dessert recipes - mine and DH's current favorite is tofu chocolate mousse. But sometimes it's just worth having a little something that you want and not deny yourself!

Another idea I have in my "to do" list:

Weight Watchers Baked Banana Splits

1 sprays cooking spray
4 large banana(s), ripe, peeled
8 oz canned crushed pineapple in juice, drained
6 tsp McNeil Nutritionals SPLENDA No Calorie Sweetener, or 2 tbsp
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup fat-free ricotta cheese
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cups raspberries

Preheat oven to 400°F. Coat a 9-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Place bananas in pan.

Combine pineapple, 1 tablespoon of Splenda and cinnamon in a small bowl; pour over bananas. Cover pan with foil and bake for 30 minutes. (Note: The canned pineapple is already sweet so omit the Splenda if you prefer a more 'mild' flavor.)

Meanwhile, combine ricotta, remaining tablespoon of Splenda and vanilla in another small bowl; set aside.

Place one baked banana in each of four individual serving bowls and top each with about 2 tablespoons of pineapple sauce and 1/4 cup of ricotta mixture. Top each with 1/4 cup of raspberries. Serve immediately.

I love frozen strawberries, thawed just slightly- mix with non fat greek yogurt and some splenda. I eat it every night and no longer have any cravings for ice cream. :)

Thanks Patti!

Wow, I'm currently eating a FF Greek Yogurt w/ partially thawed Blueberries, and sprinkled a little Cheesecake (fat free, sugar free) Pudding mix in it! It's sooooo GOOD!!

I buy angel food cake and eat a piece of it with tons of fresh berries on top. Not very "clean" but pretty low-cal. Plus, it helps me get lots of fruit in if I haven't had enough during the day. You can't beat blackberries and strawberries!! YUM!
