Circuit Training

To this wonderfully educated crowd........

I am going to be teaching a circuit type class tomorrow for the first time. Any great ideas on combos or superset ideas?

Should I do something simpler to Cathe's Bootcamp? I'm just changing up my step class a little for variety, but kind of stuck on where to start (I know a better late than never :) ). I thought maybe blocks that include upper body, lower body, abs, and cardio.

Any ideas or combos, anything....would be greatly appreciated! ;-)

Thanks, Marcia.

There are tons of options for circuits. Personally, I like to have a cardio segment for a few minutes and then one upper body exercise alone and one compound exercise (like lunges with tricep extensions), and then repeat the cycle (except the next segment would focus on lower body). I would advise not adding lying ab work in the midst of a circuit because lying down with a high HR tends to make people dizzy, as does standing up quickly after the ab exercise and jumping into high intensity work. If you want to add ab work during the circuit, I would do standing work (like drills on a bosu and balance training which involves the core).

Hope that helps!:)

Thanks, Carolyn, great ideas and , yes, I totally agree not to add abs in the middle unless they are standing ones. Thank you, that totally made sense after I read it. ;-)

Thanks again,
Marcia.

I'd do something like this:

Lower body
plyos (for example, if you do squats for the weight work,do plyo squats here)
Back
biceps

repeat sequence using different exercises for both back and biceps(as many times as fits in the workout)

Continue with:
Lower body
plyo
chest
shoulders
triceps

Repeat this sequence (again, different moves for each upper body muscle)

End with floor work/abs

Another possibility:
lower body
back
triceps
(2-3 times)

Lower body
chest
biceps
(2-3 times)

Lower body
shoulders
(2 times)

You could add in sports drills/plyos as well, and/or maybe some standing core work (ie: cross punches).
