CIA Series.......any thoughts on these?

Does anyone do these videos and if you do how are they? would you recommed these over Cathes? Thank you for your input.....

Hi

I bought a few of the vids and the only ones I actually do are the kickboxing ones. The step and floor work ones just didn't not grab me (I bought them before I discovered I could use NTSC vids on my machine here).

The tapes I have a Janis Safrell Kickboxing and Keli Roberts (find this hard to do because of her very large gloves on one of the boxing sections).

The choregraphy is good depending on the instructor really depends on what you get. Overall I like the idea of getting 2 workouts on one tape. But I found that on style I like some instructors better than others as some are harder to follow. Not just style but for me accents as well some are harder on my British ear than others and some instructors are just to !up! if you know what I mean that also can be very irritating.

Just my 2cents

I used to get a lot of CIA videos, but I didn't keep very many. The quality varies from instructor to instructor. They are usually advanced videos (though the ones I prefered were some of their less intense videos) and sometimes include contra=indicated movements, like jumping OFF a step.

I don't know if I'd recommend them over Cathe, but Franny Benedetto's CIA workouts are great! She's a great instructor with a warm personality and a knack for fun choreography.

I would not recommend them OVER Cathe's, but as a complement if you like to try a variety of styles. I second the opinion on Franny Benedetto. She comes the closest to Cathe in terms of intensity. The other instructors are hit & miss, IMHO, some good, some not so good. The best ones seem to end up eventually going out on their own (our own Cathe did her first video with Greg Twombly of CIA...I'd sure love to see a clip of that!)

I did a Frannie Hilo tape for the first time, and did not preview it first. It was fairly easy to follow, and it certainly rivaled Cathe in intensity. Very fast paced, and she just jumped into it.

I tried several. Generally speaking I too enjoy the kickboxing ones the most, including Janis and Keli. But really my absolute favorite and the one I do over and over is Christi Taylor, Double Impact. I think the number is CIA 9801. The cardio intensity is no where near Cathe. The choreography is a lot of fun and quite different. If you enjoy tough choreo, this it the one. Christi is great at cuing and she is really enjoying herself.

Does any one own or have any comments about CIA: Donna Read's "Hi/Lo to the max with athletic jams"? Is it any good?

Hi, I just wanted to pass on that I've actually been considering the "hi/lo to the max" DVD by Donna Read. I found some reviews at videofitness and collagevideo. I also like Christi Taylor. I've been into hi/lo lately and I enjoy her workouts .. she has some CIA videos but also some on her own.

I personally did not care for Donna Read's "To the Max". It seemed choppy to me and not altogether cued that well. I would recommend any Christi Taylor, Season Yeager, Franny B., Rob Glick, or Phillip Gray CIA video. They are talented instructors with very fun choreography although most are a tad easier than a Cathe video.
