Christmas presents for pets

I am trying to figure out what to buy my furry children this year since they have everything already. Maybe it's because I don't have kids that I spoil my kitties so much. Do you buy presents for your pets??

Yes, the kitties get Christmas stockings every year and their stockings hang on the mantle with ours. I used a glitter pen to personalize the stockings with each name (I have four cats) They aren't too interested, however. I pick a new toy for each of them out of the stocking on Christmas morning and maybe one will play with it. Then they all go after the boxes and packages from our presents. They are, of course, cats, meaning that they do things on their schedule, not ours!

Since my kids always remind me I usually get at least a toy or bone (no kitties here, although my 5-year-old would like one of THOSE to be his present:D). This year we also have a puppy and she's forever needing a new toy so I'm sure she'll get something too. I've never had a puppy go through so many toys!

I buy my cats stuff throughout the year, but also usually get them something for Christmas.

I also usually buy myself something 'big' for Christmas (no one else to do it, so why not myself?), but last year I combined the two: I bought a big, solid cat sleeping/climbing tree with 5 (or 6 or 7, if you count the tops of some stations) sleeping/hanging out stations. It was a present for them (and replaced a smaller one) AND for me (because I enjoy their enjoyment of it).

I'm not sure what bunnies like, but is there something practical that they need that you could take to the next level (like a fancier, plusher something? or some extra-special food?)

WHen I was a kid, we always had Christmas stockings for the cats (also personalized with glitter!), and they'd usually get some catnip wrapped in tissue paper, which they had fun opening up!

No. They get to play with the paper and that's enough for them. I love my pets, but they are pets - not children.

I love buying presents for my dogs and we enjoy including them as part of our family.

Here is a photo of Mercedes (she is waiting for me in heaven) Christmas morning. She LOVED opening Christmas presents!!! My kids and I had a blast shopping for the perfect toys every year. She was a pistol to hide things from too:cool:, she would always somehow know where Santa hid the toys!

This is how our family loves to think of her. She was a precious gift from God.

Love the pictures! At Christmas, my dog (RIP) always knew which presents were his under the tree. He would rip one open as fast as he could and go right on to the next.

That's how my childhood dog (pug) was too. I have very fond memories of her on Christmas day.

We get presents for our dogs too, mostly chew bones or large stuffed animals from the church thrift store. I wash them and wrap them and they pick out the one they want on Christmas morning. They are usually pretty good with the stuffed animals for quite a long time. Sometimes I mend a rip here and there but when its time to throw it away its not so bad when the cost is only $1 each. I pick floppy ones with no squeekers or button on them.

I love the doggie christmas pictures by the way!

Carmen.

Sharing with those less fortunate

Yesterday, my cats an I ;-) went through their collection of toys, and came up with a bunch that I will be taking to my local shelter for those less-fortunate cats (I was there on Saturday, and there were no toys at all--except for some lame bells-in-a-cage-ball toys---for the cats to play with: and the adults need toys, as they don't play with each other the way the kittens and the adolescents do)l

Kathryn, that's a great idea.

That is so sad about the adult cats.:( Great idea Kathryn!
I'm going to donate a kuranda bed to my local shelter. The beds keep the dogs from having to sleep on concrete floors and they have a lifetime guarantee.
Here is the link to find a shelter/rescue in your area...

Here is Isabella sleeping on her kuranda bed inside her crate...
