'Tis the season...ALMOST!!! I have to be first to send my Christmas cards out every year (gets us prime spot on everyone's refrigerator) so today I took the kids to get their pictures taken and made into Christmas Cards.

What do you do every year??

Uh Oh;( I order my cards every year in September and I totally forgot about it this year. Oh crap:-( I guess I better get to the Hallmark store before all the good cards are taken.

My cards vary from year to year. I don't have children but my pets have often been the star attraction of my Christmas cards. I always include a personal note in every card.

i usually send a card with a little note about whats going on with us but maybe this year i will try to get xmas pics done. its just so busy between now and right before xmas that i just don't want to bother with all that mess at the stores LOL. they at least have viola's new school pics.

I send just a card, but I always write a personal note on every one. I am so disappointed to get so many cards with just a signature on them. I prefer to take some time and write a little about the kids and what's going on in our lives. I also send a small picture of the kids inside the envelope.

This is another thread, but I do not like the copies of letters that brag about all of the accomplishments and money spent on vacations/new vehicles, etc over the year. They are not very personal, but I prefer them to just a signature!

I'm actually a little of both...with some family I send a card only and some others I send a card with some pic in it. Mostly, I do the card with pictures though, especially for family that hasn't seen me in a long time.;) :D

I picked that I don't send Christmas cards...In previous years I have not sent cards to anyone but super close family and those are hand-picked cards...

Now that I have my baby-cakes though, I intend to take his pic and make cards out of it like Sarah is doing and I will send them to "the masses"...if it wasn't for him I probably would continue to NOT send them out...

I'm not BAH-HUM-BUG as I LOVE Christmas but I just never got into the card thing....:)

Since having my children, I hve always sent a card with a photo--a lot of my friends and relatives are far away, and it gives them an opportunity to see how much my two blessings have grown in a year! (Just the two kids are in the picture every year, not my husband and I). The last two years, I have stamped my own cards (I've gotten in to Stampin Up and love it)--thats's over 100 cards to stamp--I usually start a few days before Thanksgiving, and plan a night or two (or three) of staying up till midnight to get them all done--it's worth it when I see the finished product, but definitely a timekiller!!

I send a picture card featuring my kids and dog. I mostly send to family and a few good friends that we live so far from and hardly ever see.

I don't like getting those signature only cards either. I always think... what's the point, that was a waste of a stamp. It seems like most people send a card with just a signature. Next are those copied letters about all the things they did through the year. Don't like those either. It's not the letter I dislike, it's the mass produced copies of them. I wouldn't be that hard to merge in a "To" line with a name into those letters, and that would help. I do like getting pictures from people though. People pictures are always good.

Melissa, I used to do a lot of Stampin Up stuff. They have some great stamps and stamp sets and it is fun! I made stamped paperclay ornaments for a lot of years to give out. Those are fun too. I would still be doing it if I had the time.

I am very low maintanence when it comes to the holidays - my nephew hosts Thanksgiving, so I take a dessert. For Xmas, I don't send cards, decorate (that means no tree) or buy and wrap gifts. I DO get gift cards, but give them out in the envelope the store or bank provides. I can shop on Dec. 24 as a result. I also don't go to any holiday parties. My oldest son has been hosting Xmas breakfast for the past couple of years. I don't sweat the holidays at all.
Just Do It! :)

I send a card and include a picture of my kids. That reminds me, I've got to make an appt at Sears to have them taken. I like to get my cards sent out around the 2nd week of September.

We do the family picture every year. It is tradition for us. I enjoy receiving the picture card too. I'll put a short note in for those I haven't caught up with in recent months.

I've always sent just a card. I was thinking of sending Thankgiving cards this year since I get overwhelmed by the time Christmas cards need to go out. Too late now! hahaha

I never send cards. I've always been anti-card, anyway. Whether it's birthdays, anniversaries, whatever. They always end up in the trash so I just see them as a waste of money. I feel the same about flowers.

I'm really not a grouch though my response probably sounds like it. ;-)

Picture card for me! I take a photo of the kids under the tree - then I take the photo to Sam's Club and they turn it into a card. It is so easy and CHEAP. One year I even set the camera on a tripod and took a photo of the entire family in front of the fireplace. It ended up taking us 1/2 the day to get a good picture but we have a lot of good memories and funny photos of that day! And thank goodness for digital cameras!

Now you are getting me in the mood for Christmas. Now if Christmas didn't include "shopping" I'd be realy excited!

Here's another question for you -- what do your kids put out for Santa?

My kids put out cookies, a Mt. Dew to keep him awake all night and marshmallows for the reindeer! :)

Happy Holidays!!
Michelle

Since I've had children I've always done a picture attached to a card. The kids are just in the picture. It's too hard to try and coordinate me and dh with the kids. I've had the best luck getting Christmas jammies and taking the picture in those the past few years. I have my Christmas cards already and picture, so all I have to do is assemble. I also, like to to write a little something in the card.

Anyone ever get a Stamp it Up card before. Now hats off to those mom's who make their cards from scratch! And include a picture!

This is interesting reading all the responses.

MIchelle,

My kids put out cookies and milk for Santa. For the reindeer, they get carrots. We also sprinkle a packet of glitter on the snow, so Santa can see our house. ;-) One year, the kids dumped it all in a pile. Last year, they made a path to the house. They were so excited about the glitter.

PS. Does anyone do letters from Santa? They came with flakes of snow from the North Pole. Boy, you should have seen their faces when they opened the letters. I better get those ordered!

Thanks for this thread Sarah, you're really getting me into the spirit! :)

Well.....I am about to ruin everyone's spirit!LOL!!! We are not encouraging our kids to believe that Santa brings presents so they do not write letters! Actually, at 5 years and 3.5 years it is too early to write letters but we tell them the truth about Santa. Mommy and Daddy buy you presents and during the Holidays we pretend (for fun even though we know better) that Santa does all the work...he's our Holiday mascot!!LOL!!!

I don't want to teach my kids a lie just so they can be heart broken when some kid on a playground tells them Santa isn't real. That is just what we feel comfortable doing.

Sarah -- you didn't ruin the spirit - we all have different views.

It is amazing how smart kids are. Santa is always a big deal in our house, however, my son is 7 and he already knows it is pretend. He continues to go along with it for the fun of it (and for the sake of his little sister). He started asking questions early and we always answered them with, what do you think? How does Santa get around the world? What do you think? Is Santa real? What do you think? It was never like one day he "discovered" it -- he just figured it out along the way.

My biggest problem now is he is starting to ask questions about where babies come from -- I don't want him finding out about THAT on the playgound! :)

Michelle

Michelle, Honesty always works!!

"They come from mommy's belly". "But how do they get in mommy's belly" "Well, when mommy and daddy love eachother very much, daddy places the baby in mommy's belly with a magic wand" LOL!!!!
