chinup checkin Weds 05/10

Thanks for all your words of encouragment the other day Kathryn and everyone else. I keep telling myself if other people can do them I can do them. I pulled out the info titled "Mistressing the Pullup". Read through that again. Decided to do the assisted chin ups with putting my legs straight out on a chair. I think this is going to help me.

Soooooosan-thanks for all the yoga suggestions. I only took one yoga class several years ago. I didn't really care for it as it was boring. I am going to order the Eoin DVD.

HI Joanne

Hi everyone who's still in the 05/08 thread.

I'm getting confused by all the bands, stools, chairs etc. I don't know anymore how anyone is doing what they're doing. I totally no longer know what is the best method to work up to the "real thing".

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH

Wow...I forgot there was a new thread today until Melody just kindly alerted us in the 5.8 thread. I somehow altogether missed that today was Wednesday. I'm sorry Mel!!!

Now regarding your thread. After you spend a few minutes breathing deeply and practising the yoga relaxation techniques that you are SO GOOD AT, and which you kicked your dear children out of the loft for, we shall go into the topic at hand.;)

There are different ways to achieve goals. Thankfully Cathe doesn't have only one workout DVD (although my dh may argue this point of view). There are many methods of training. What works for one may not work for another. In my case...I generally have to do it all to get to where I want to be. I try everything.

My opinion for achieving chins is this....if the negatives aren't causing you problems or pain (as in Soosan's case), then keep doing them, day in and day out, come rain or shine, through thick and through thin, until death due us part (even while doing normal chins). BUT, you may try bands which give you a little bit of assistance which is what Kathryn is trying. I'm STILL a firm believer in the eccentric chinup....they will strengthen your back. Since you can do these without significant problems....then do them! Don't worry about bandy, stooly, gidgets and gadgets that can break things (did that sound like Tony or what???) (too much P90X over here). Just get on that bar and get going.

Don't stress this Melody!! Don't get confused...just do negatives. Oh yes...do those inverts too...they are sooo coool.

I was just reading the vegan appreciation thread and I LOLROTF at your comment Mel....the pallopescowhateveritwas confused comment. You are sooo funny. This thread lifted my spirits as I am feeling like I'm completedly wiped out at present and wondering why I ever left veganism after a doctor's advise to add other foods to my diet and actually listening to him only to have the worst mega-allergy reaction since prior to veganism 5 years ago!!!! (that was a mouthful). Every time I go to a doctor I ask myself why and wonder how I could have fallen to such a state of dispair as to walk into his office. Disclaimer for Michele...I'm sure her dh is very wonderul even though he is a doctor.;) ;) . It's a hard transition BACK into veganism as I'm sure my body is dumping all kinds of junk that I've accumulated as well as getting used to the protein overload I've come to get used to in the past 3-4 months.

Soosan...I did IMAX 3 this morning..last 5 intervals and am catching up on S&H shoulders and should be right there with ya by tonight!! (although I nearly passed out on the step - I truly am wiped out right now)

I just wanted to post four times in a row so I can match Soosan (maybe I'll do another just so I can beat her:p :p :p )

I guess I should report: no chin-ups (will do some assisted ones at the Y tomorrow). Did KPC Cardio Conditioning Premix followed by a 20-min yoga stretch.

Melody, it does take some playing with these to get the right system for you. (I'm still trying to figure it out!) I'm afraid to go back to negatives for fear of injuring myself again. I think I'll do the assisted reps for a month or so and then mix the negs back in, but not go to failure. As long as I don't get injured again, I'm going to keep at these until I get there, even if I never do!

Kathryn, maybe you can get two of your cats to each hold up an end of the band. That way you'll only need two hands of your own.

Briee, shoulders won't take you too long and you'll be glad you did them.

Joanne, I think you'll really like PY4H.

Briee and Sooooooooooooosan,

Thanks for the motivational speeches:) My brain and mood have been just :p today. Oh well tomorrow's another day.

I even fell asleep this afternoon and missed my workout AND don't even care.

BTW I'm going to continue my negatives and inverted rows because the day after I do them my entire back is always blessed with DOMS. Obviously, I'm working those muscles.:)

Good night.

You all are so funny,

I do my chinnies tomorrow. Let you know all about it then.

Take care everyone, sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite.

>Aaahh, whimpy stuff for us chinsters! Notice how they didn't
>even pick up the barbells in front of them?

You must have missed something. Those ladies where cleaning almost 100# with those barbells   . If you look that is an olympic bar that weighs 45# and the plates are each 25#  .

But I do agree we are much tougher ;)

I guess it must have stopped in the middle. But, as you said, they don't hold a candle to us! Do you see a chin-up bar in that room? Huh? Huh? Do you?

Briee:
I see on the other thread that you have a hankering for donuts. Here are some non-dairy ones:

Haven't tried my chin-ups today yet (I'm trying them every other day, with a day of recovery in beween), but I've decided to stick with one method and go from there. Now, whether that will be the assisted-with-bands method (which is kind of pretzelly) or the negative reps method has yet to be determined. I think I'll end up doing as many reps (probably partial!) as I can from a dead hang, then take a break and do my 5 negatives. We'll see what happens!
